I think you MUST go BPA in round 1 no matter the position. After that draft ever damn RT and OG in rounds 2 through 7.
This.....the probable scenario in our draft is the top tier of tackles are gone. We lack playmaking YAC in our receiving corp......Wallace is our real threat and primarily a deep threat.
I envision an offense with a Brandin Cooks where you move him around and tear up the middle of the field...fast, quick and strong...and yeah his 4.3 speed gives you another scary deep threat.
We can get RT's and Guards in rounds 2 & 3.
I mean it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to get another playmaker but how do you ignore the huge need for OL? What if there is a run on them in the 2nd and we don't come away with a starting guard or tackle?
Mike Wallace may not be the strongest runner on shorter routes but according to ESPN's KC Joyner, in 2011 Wallace led the NFL in average yards per target of 10 yards or less.Yes, WR is probably the deepest position in this draft, but I'm starting to see how a pick like Odell Beckham or Brandin Cooks in the first round could really change our offense. Mike Wallace has deep speed for sure, but he's not the strongest runner in the open field on short routes. We don't currently have a player that creates a matchup problem with the ability to take a shallow route and turn it into a big play.
I really think the talk of Hickey being in love with this tackle or that tackle is just a smokescreen. When he looks at value on the board, there's no way he takes a RT at #19.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap10...allace-not-a-onetrick-pony-for-miami-dolphinsDolphins quarterbacks also have noticed on film that Wallace is more than just a vertical "go" route specialist.
"What was impressive to see was what he can do with the ball (on short patterns)," Matt Moore said, via the Miami Herald. "Everyone talks about the deep routes, but Ben Roethlisberger would sometimes get him the ball quickly and just let him go."
The Pittsburgh Steelers frequently used Wallace on quick screens and slants. With one missed tackle, he's a threat to hit paydirt. According to ESPN.com's KC Joyner, Wallace led the NFL two years ago in average yards per target on throws of 10 yards or less.
I posted here recently that I could live with a cornfed at #19 IF there is not a WR that adds a dimension to our passing game, if the ones on the board are just carbon copies of what we have now. Because I don't know anything about Cooks, I can't say if he does or not but there seems to be a consensus that he is a guy who REVOLUTIONIZES our passing game if he comes here. He didn't really ring the bell in college from what I heard... but if he is THAT good, yes definitely I want a guy like that over a lineman. I see several excellent OL in the top half of the 2nd round. For some reason I smell a WR move in the 1st and a trade-up to get higher in the 2nd to get the OL Hickey wants (maybe xsf or Jones).
Just don't draft any of nick satan's thugs. kouandijo and South Beach is a radioactive combo. If Hickey wants high-character guys, they don't come from tuscaloser.
Our priority is the O line so there's no question in my mind that's what he's targeting in round one. But if his guy doesn't fall, and he can get better value in round two, then he will.
I think a lot of O linemen will be off the board, teams simply need them. I just hope there isn't too much of a run, and we can get who we prefer, and still get a playmaker as well.
If there is no top tackles available at 19 scoop a WR or TE. Got no problem with that.
While our priority is still the O-line, I think we have to add some more offensive weapons if we are going to compete with Denver and New England in the AFC. Look at how many points the Broncos and Pats put up and then check out what the Phins have done since Marino retired. You can win many games with a great offense and average D, but it's hard to win with just an average offense and average defense. I still think you need to be a complete team to win a SB like Seattle did last year. Seattle and San Fran have depth and talent at almost every position and lots of depth....we are a ways off, but this draft can get us in the right direction.
