Stephen Ross say's Miami is the Dolphins town, and takes a shot at the Heat.

This is simply not true anymore. The Heat know how to market to this city and they put out an exciting product in their beautiful arena which is also located in a beautiful area of the city. The Heat are just a better flat out organization than the Dolphins in ever single way and it starts with the owner.

I think you should argue this point in one of the many Miami Heat forums online. Oh yeah, that doesn't exist. Maybe when you go to a Heat game and notice the lower bowl is half empty, and that the non empty half is populated with botox doctors and their patients, you'll realize that despite being a better organization, the Heat fanbase or passion around the team doesn't hold a candle to the Miami Dolphins. We had 3 of the top 5 players in their prime and the team could barely generate any buzz in their own arena. Give the Dolphins a 5 year deep playoff run and the Heat will be relegated to Florida Panther status. Miami belongs to the Dolphins and no Heat anomaly or run will change that fact.

The Dolphins got a coveted free agent wow you don't say. What happened when we got Brandon Marshall? Mike Wallace? Brandon Albert? Reggie Bush? Brent Grimes? Ocho Cinco? The Dolphins sign big free agents all the time. How about we finish something besides 7-9, 8-8 or 9-7 and then maybe you would have earned the benefit of the doubt.

Please. Stop being an overly critical little girl. The owner just invested his own cash to renovate the entire stadium without a single penny of public support outside of some irrelevant tax credits.

We also signed the most coveted free agent in the last decade and he has made every investment in the team and in himself to improve upon past errors. He has every right to speak his mind. So sick of all these thought control nazi's that throw a crapfest every time Ross opens his mouth.

This is an interesting thread.

I am a Dolphins fan wayyy before anything else. Growing up in the Tampa area I never cared about the Heat, nor do I now.
I have noticed on twitter some Dolphins fans I follow are so annoying about the Heat and Lebron talk. I am curious locals, if the Heat and Dolphins are both good, I would assume it has to be a Dolphins town right? The NBA isn't even close to the level the NFL is on. Hell, guys don't even try until the playoffs.

Also, it shoul be note the Dolphins have a nationwide fan base, I doubt anyone outside sofla gives a rip about the Heat.

No need to get your panties in a wad because Ross implied something that everyone knows.

Not a big deal. Let it go. Enjoy the new stadium experience and a team that is built to win, after removing decades long stench of GM and coaching incompetence. If Philbin is adequately improved we will be hosting a playoff game come January.

Do you live in Miami? I would also like to point out that the Heat were sold out every single night last year and they were top 5 in both attendance and TV ratings while the Dolphins were dead last in NFL ratings. I love the Dolphins and the Heat equally.

Brandon Marshall = not a free agent (and not a team player...how many playoffs has he been to now?).
Reggie Bush = not a free agent (he was so coveted we got him for a 6th rounder from the Saints lol)
Brent Grimes =not coveted. He was a late addition and we weren't even sure he was fully healed from his Achilles injury.
Ocho Cinco = no one wanted the guy except Jeff Ireland....coveted lol.

That's like saying McRoberts, Anderson, Stoudamire are all coveted free agents for the Heat...who didn't even make the playoffs last year.

I think you're on the wrong board. Go find yourself a Heat board. If a free agent in football made up 20% of the team it might be an apples-to-apples comparison but since it's more 1/22nd of a team it's a little more difficult to buy a championship like the Heat have done.

Born and raised.

I'm not debating the bandwagon nature of Miami sports fans, that is an undeniable and pathetic stat. I am debating this notion that Miami is a Heat town because of some magical demographic shift. If the Dolphins play to their ability this year, this entire town will rally behind the team unlike anything we have witnessed since Marino was in his prime.. It will make the Marlin and Heat championship runs look amateur.

Sold out but no one in their seats. I've been to many Heat games, been a fan since 1988 when they started. My brother is a season ticket holder and when I go down to visit family I'll attend a game but that place is quiet. And I got excited and started yelling and my brother told me to calm down "we don't do that here" as he told me. "I don't care" I told him and kept yelling. Heat games are a social gathering, not a sporting event. More people in the club than in their seats.

Having this conversation now, the Fins are on the rise and possible contenders this year, and the marlins(always in rebuild) and heat are in rebuild mode.
Unless Riley somehow grabs Durrant, I do not see anything changing for quite some time.
The Heat bought their championships (as well the Marlins) and had short term greatness. The Fins greatness spans decades, with the last 12 years in rebuild.
I enjoyed the Heats Championship runs, as well as the Marlins runs. In baseball and basketball, that is the way it is. Tough to sustain the greatness.
In the long historical view the Fins have no competition. Just because some of you were not fortunate to be around doesn't make it any less noteworthy.
Don Shula is a coaching legend and his record stands alone in the NFL and is among the elite in all coaching history. Those years were heavy weight.
The next 5 years look real good for the ascending Fins...while the Marlins and Heat will struggle to make the playoffs.

I've lived in Miami all my life and I've always been a heat fan .

We all know that success is what has brought most of these heat " fans " walking around with their wade jerseys on .

If both teams have 5 awful seasons in a row ... People would tend to be more loyal to the dolphins than the heat .

If the heat were rocking the 76ers roster right now for 3 years in a row ... You're damn right almost all those heat fans would disappear .

If the Dolphins win the Superbowl , the parade would **** on any parade ever had by the heat . Including the first parade the heat had with Riley as coach ( which was pretty sweet )

Not sure there is anything to comment on I don't see any context to say anything bad. Ross is an idiot but nothing wrong with what was quoted.

Was this comment in response to a question specifically about the Heat? If not, it's in poor taste. Ross should focus on his own team rather than worrying about what other franchises are doing. Local teams shouldn't view each other as competition, but rather as companions in the community. There is enough room for more than one popular and successful team in the market.

This isn't a heat town or a Dolphins town. This a bandwagon town that supports the team that is currently winning. And that team recently has been the Miami Heat. Once the Dolphins Start winning again their will be more support from the city for them. The Marlins have been horrible for most of their existence, but when the team went on those 2 championship runs all of a sudden the Marlins who couldn't get more than 3000 people to show up to a game, had full stadiums in
The playoffs. And at the beginning of the following seasons, there were way more people attending games until they realized the Marlins were terrible again, and the attendance went back to what it used to be
