Still missing Lamar Miller?

I like Damien Williams. We could have had three dangerous weapons in the backfield and a ton of depth at an injury-prone position? Phew, glad we dodged that bullet.

Ajayi runs angry.. Miller doesn't.. assuming even money, would anyone trade Ajayi for Miller???

Still debating the loss of Miller...

HE was a good RB and would have been a nice player on the team, but we also may never have found out what type of player Ajayi is with him on the roster. We are also talking about player with different styles of running and Ajayi is much better as a tone setter and the type of player to finish off games. He run angry and with an intensity that few do. Do I miss Miller, I really haven't thought about him with the exception of this thread during this 5 game win streak.

I dig Williams, always have. But comparing the TD production b/w Osweiller/O'Brien and their capability to continue drives to that of Tannehill/Gase in terms as it relates to the running game in the redzone is a malfunction in analysis.

That's not the point I'm making. The point is that there's VERY little chance Miller would be doing better for us than Williams has with the same limited number of touches. We saved a lot of $ and have gotten explosive plays in the passing game out if Williams that we likely would have never seen from Miller.

The guy who intrigues me more and more as a complement to Ajayi is Drake. Gase mentioned a few weeks back that he was going to be given more opportunities as long as he was doing things right consistently. I'm intrigued to see what happens if the Niners D-Line gets worn down a little, and Drake gets some carries.

Loved Miller here and no shame in going to get your money in this sport that will leave hurting for years to come but people greatly overlook something. Miller was able to do what he did with us thanks to split carries in backfield, I know he wanted more touches but it kept his leg fresh. Just look at him this season, he has 192 carries out of backfield so far, he had 194 total last year through 16games... Texans don't have their QB so they are going to run Lamar into the ground and it's a shame due to they aren't going to be winning a title anytime soon so he will get the Ricky effect(so to speak), then in 2 maybe 3 seasons when he has no tread left on the tires they will cut ties.

This staff knew what they had in Jay, the fans(well majority) didn't so the letting Miller go allowed us to discover Jay is nonsense. If Miller could have sucked his ego up a tiny bit and watched what Gase does with RBs with multi skill sets, accepted not being a full time feature back(20+ carries a game), etc.. we would have one hell of a duo paired with RT, parker coming into his own, improved o-line when healthy, a coach that schemes for the players. I'm sure we would have seen 2 back sets leaving the D unsure if we were going to hand it off to Jay right up the gut or Miller flank out. Do I think we are hurt because we don't have him? Nope, but having him would have made things a lot more interesting via scheming.

Wait, so we could have potentially had 4 awesome RBs?! The bullets we dodged are multiplying.

My only concern with keeping Miller (with the benefit of seeing how Ajayi is playing) is that he'd be discontent as the 2nd RB. He'd be ideal in that role. After Ajayi beats up the D, Miller would be in an optimal spot to break off big runs. RB depth is underrated, and I agree with your premise. In fact, I hope Miami is looking for falling RB's starting in the 3rd. I'm just not convinced that Miller would be willing to accept 2nd RB duties.

He wouldn't accept it, he wants to be the workhorse.

This staff knew what they had in Jay,

Now come on. That's just beyond (trying to be really delicate about this) silly!

#1 -- we don't have any registered psychics on the staff -- at least none with credentials.

#2 -- seems I recall Jay was in the crap house for the first 2 or 3 or whatever games. And we were LOSING because??? The staff that "knew" Jay was gonna pack 200+ yards games in his travel bag didn't want to???? reveal they have psychic powers and ???

I don't think so.

Furthermore, maybe Gase coulda got somethin outta LaMarvelous that no one else could see -- as they obviously didn't know (or did they?) Jay was HOF?

Holy hell, even Mr. Frosty would say that is a reach. Nowhere did I say the staff knew he would put up monster numbers nor did I say Gase wouldn't have done worth with Miller. Simply stated staff knew they had a back in Jay(yes he was in dog house and it grabbed his attention and redirected him), even said I loved Miller here(personally wanted him to stay) the combo of Jay and Miller would have been amazing with Gase directing it all but $$ (okay with players getting their money before they are used up) and ego of wanting to be featured workhorse allowed Miller land with Texans.

More 1a and 1b duties, and how does he not accept? Refuse to play? I haven't seen anything that indicates he'd go that far. And if he did, we'd just be in the position we are now. No, he'd collect his money and enjoy the numbers he'd be putting up as defenses scramble to defend a multi-faceted attack by the offense.

I called Jay way before the draft...I saw a runner that break tackles unlike Miller.

Miller is good...I just don't like my feature back being basically a speed back.

Not sure we would of ever seen Ajayi come alive with Miller here.

I am happy with the way things worked out. Was always in favor of letting Miller walk but saying that, I was cool if we kept him also. You have Ajayi for 2 more years at peanuts and his type of running style is what this Dolphins team has needed since the Ricky/Ronnie days.

If that's the case, then Ajayi isn't as good as we all think. If he has the talent, it was going to come through or it wasn't. Miller wouldn't have impacted that outside of giving him even more room when facing defenses that couldn't focus primarily on him.
