Stop all the "Let's trade S Morris" talk!!

He averaged 4 yards per carry behind that horrid offensive line last season. Keep in mind that Ricky averaged 3.5 the year before. Now I'm not saying that he's as good as Williams, but to rip him is foolish. He's a decent half back, can serve as a fullback, and can be used as one of our special teams aces on coverage when he isnt starting on offense. Hes more valuable than any back we have other than Ricky and Ronnie.

Sammy Morris is way too valuable on special teams, thays why he is more valuable than Gordon or Minor.

No way the Dolphins let him go.

Minor is just as good on special teams if not better.. Minor has returned more kickoffs so far than anyone (7 vs Welkers 5) for a higher avg. than Welker (23.2 vs 21.2) in the preseason. I faill to believe that Morris is more valueable than Minor on ST. Minor also has a higher career avg. and can catch the ball much better than Morris and 3rd down is the only time any RB other than Brown or Ricky should see the field.

Theres more to special teams than returning the ball.

Don't trade Morris, he seems to be the only one proven to run behind our "o=line" if you can call them that.

you go on to talk about all his positives, yet you keep on saying that he's the #3 back. If we get a trade for our #3 back, you take it, especially if its reasonable!

Once Ricky comes back, Morris will never see the field. We can just as easily have Harris, Gordon, or Minor be our #3

btw, Morris is NOT an all purpose back. He doesnt have the speed to be an all purpose back. Also, Minor does returns, not Sammy!

"hurumph, hurumph...give the the governor a hurumph"

in addtion to all that, MINOR is the guy that Saban has actually spoken well of publicly very recently. When all is said and done...I think Minor has a great chance of making the team...he's identicle to the runners that they drafted up in Minn. that have had success in Linehan's offense. (baically, he catches the ball extremely well)

No your wrong in that thinking. Its the QB that affects the line more than the running back. With the Defense not worried about getting burnt deep on a pass for a score they can put 8 in the box to stuff the run. Did you watch the line in 2003. The line sucked and we had Ricky in the backfield. The QB had 0 time to throw the ball and Ricky was getting stuffed behind the line of scrimmage almost all the time. The defense can throw all kinds of blitzes at us because the QB put no fear into the defense. If the QB could capitalize on a blitz and throw one deep or find the open reciever it would cause less blitzing.

runningback can also help with the blitz. You think the year before line was any better? The biggest difference was the defense had to respect ricky. They couldn't just blitz the quarterback because the one linebacker might miss his tackle against Ricky and then the cornerbacks are in trouble as Ricky could take it to the house. Morris generally doesn't break that linebacker tackle, and if he does the other guys who are keying on the quarterback have enough time to turn around and get him because he is just too slow to make them pay.

The defense was able to throw all kinds of blitzes because the QB AND the RB put no fear in the defense. Especially the RB since they were almost always pass blitzes.

What in the hell are you talking about? That's some of the most fantastic jibberish I've ever seen on this board. Explain that.

Football is a team sport. It is also a sport if you have a huge strength in one area it helps another area. One of those areas are runningback and offensive line. A good offensive line can turn an ok back into a good back. A good runningback can turn a good offensive line into a great offensive line.

Morris is at best a decent back. However he has many faults.

1) he does not consistantly make the first guy miss. He does it once and a while.

2) He misses the hole if it is not right in front of him. If the hole shifts a little to the left or the right to where he is running he is running into the back of an offensive lineman. Is big enough to bounce off and still get a little yardage, but a Ricky or an Alexander would see the hole and go through it.

3) He isn't fast or quick enough to bounce it outside.

4) He doesn't see cut back lanes. If the hole is stopped and there is this huge cut back lane that needs one cut, he will not find it. A good runningback generally does.

A runningback that makes the first guy miss consistantly, finds the hole when it shifts, is quick and fast enough to bounce it outside and is able to see the cut back lanes makes the offensive line look much better.

To add to what I said, watching Morris run last year was painful. It is like going from Tillamook ice cream to No Frill Ice Milk that just says ICE MILK in a black label at the super market. So many times where I saw where Ricky would of made that cut, Ricky would of seen that hole, Ricky would of bounced it outside, Ricky could actually make that guy miss, Ricky would of got 5 yards instead of three.

Heck Julius Jones would of done much better.

If someone like the eagles wants morris, and are willing to give up a 3rd-5th round pick for him, i can't say i wouldn't pull the trigger.

2nd round for Sam, especially to the eagles! we need even out the AJ fiasco!

As I already stated the Oline sucked in 2003. In 2002 the line did not suck. Jamie Nails was having a Probowl season and the whole unit performed much better. As Dolfans we should all realize that the QB will affect how a defense attacks the offense much more than the RB. I realize its a team sport and They both play a part in how the D attacks the offense. Did you ever watch Dan Marino? Simply put the D had to fear ol Danny Boy and could not send all kinds of blitzes because Danny would always make them pay. They tried and usually got burnt because Dan could recognize where the blitz was coming from and capitalize on it. None of our QB's since Dan could do this, Allowing the D to blitz like crazy because they had no fear of getting beat on the blitz. Do you remember 2003 at all with Ricky getting stuffed 2 yards behind the line of scrimmage all the time? The D certainly feared Ricky then and they still blitzed the hell out of us.

Please your Dreaming. We only got a 2nd rounder for Pat Surtain. What makes you think Philly would over pay for a 3rd string RB/FB? Did Rick Spielman take over the GM duties in Philly and I didnt hear about it?

Alas, I don't think we'd get much for any of Morris, Minor or Gordon. None of them have that much proven worth, or even potential. Not that they're bad players mind you - just not stars thats all.

Remember though, even after Ricky & Ronnie, we'll still need another RB (or 2). I prefer Morris & Minor to Gordon - both Morris & Minor can be relied upon to a certain extent (in extremis) whereas I never get the feeling Gordon will move the chains.
