Stop all the "Let's trade S Morris" talk!!

Football is a team sport. It is also a sport if you have a huge strength in one area it helps another area. One of those areas are runningback and offensive line. A good offensive line can turn an ok back into a good back. A good runningback can turn a good offensive line into a great offensive line.

Morris is at best a decent back. However he has many faults.

1) he does not consistantly make the first guy miss. He does it once and a while.

2) He misses the hole if it is not right in front of him. If the hole shifts a little to the left or the right to where he is running he is running into the back of an offensive lineman. Is big enough to bounce off and still get a little yardage, but a Ricky or an Alexander would see the hole and go through it.

3) He isn't fast or quick enough to bounce it outside.

4) He doesn't see cut back lanes. If the hole is stopped and there is this huge cut back lane that needs one cut, he will not find it. A good runningback generally does.

A runningback that makes the first guy miss consistantly, finds the hole when it shifts, is quick and fast enough to bounce it outside and is able to see the cut back lanes makes the offensive line look much better.

Those are examples of a good runningback making a line look better then it is, not a "bad" runningback making a line look worse then it is. Try again.

As I already stated the Oline sucked in 2003. In 2002 the line did not suck. Jamie Nails was having a Probowl season and the whole unit performed much better. As Dolfans we should all realize that the QB will affect how a defense attacks the offense much more than the RB. I realize its a team sport and They both play a part in how the D attacks the offense. Did you ever watch Dan Marino? Simply put the D had to fear ol Danny Boy and could not send all kinds of blitzes because Danny would always make them pay. They tried and usually got burnt because Dan could recognize where the blitz was coming from and capitalize on it. None of our QB's since Dan could do this, Allowing the D to blitz like crazy because they had no fear of getting beat on the blitz. Do you remember 2003 at all with Ricky getting stuffed 2 yards behind the line of scrimmage all the time? The D certainly feared Ricky then and they still blitzed the hell out of us.

And yet Fiedler had time to pass the ball. Could it be the blitzes were more designed to stop Ricky?

Apperently you cannot read. Those are examples of making a line look much worse.

I think that was the case I also think that Jay was more known as a scrambler which made him a threat when it came to the blitz also.I think more teams were just willing to let him pass.

Minor is just as good on special teams if not better.. Minor has returned more kickoffs so far than anyone (7 vs Welkers 5) for a higher avg. than Welker (23.2 vs 21.2) in the preseason. I faill to believe that Morris is more valueable than Minor on ST. Minor also has a higher career avg. and can catch the ball much better than Morris and 3rd down is the only time any RB other than Brown or Ricky should see the field.

Not as a returner!!!!!

Morris is outstanding on both punt and kickoff coverage. The best that we have had since Larry Izzo.

We had one of the top coverage teams in the league last year, and Sammy Morris was a huge part of that.

And by the way...

YOU DON'T TAKE RONNIE BROWN OFF THE FIELD ON THIRD DOWN !!!!!!!!!!!

Not with his pass blocking and receiving skills.

Am I talking with Rich Kotite?

Sure the blitzes were designed to stop Ricky. How many times did Fiedler burn the defense? If he could of made the defense pay by throwing some TD's to the uncovered man than maybe the Defense wouldnt have been able to blitz so much. Lets see in 2003 the line sucked and we had Ricky in 2004 the line sucked and we did not have Ricky. Ricky was such a great back he still piled up over 1300 yards. Not once did we have a QB that a defense feared. IF we had a QB the D feared then in order to stop Ricky the D could of just showed 8 in the box and not necesarily blitzed. The point is this with Ricky we still got blitzed on all the time even on obvious passing downs. Without Ricky we were blitzed on all the time. They didnt blitz because they didnt fear the RB they blitzed because they knew the QB could do nothing to hurt them.

I have never said that a good QB would not slow down the blitzes. Not once did I not think that Miami needs a QB that strikes fear in the hearts of the defense.

However that does not discount that having a good RB would really help the line.

Philly isn't dealing with anybody for a RB. They already contacted Dorsey Levens about coming back this year.

Having as many weapons on offence as possible is critical to keeping defenses on their toes. The Dolphins have plenty of weapons; we just need a consistent QB. The QB doesn’t even need to be great, just consistent.
