Sturgis cost us 5 wins. Spend $200 mill in FA replace Carpenter with a rookie?

I wasn't too happy about Carpenter.

"Marvin the Martian" Sturgis got s streaky this season.

HATE his helmet.

You and me both hate that helmet....

I think the point here should be that JI spent 200M on improving this team to not NEED a kicker to have to make every single kick.

Players like Keller Gibson Wallace. That money spent was supposed to put us up 1 or 2 td's near the end of the game.

IF WV hadn't made such an epic fail of a thread and flip flopped like a boss 6,908 times, this would be a lock for worst thread of the year. lucky for the OP he'll come in second, and nobody ever remembers the second worse FH thread of any given year.

I think I would argue that a combination of players, coaching and FO cost this team games this year. Kind of an obvious statement on the face of it, but definitely accurate. I would argue that we hit the trifecta in suck.

Sturgis = sucks. But he didn't cost us any games. All the same, I'm not sure why we had to use a 5th round pick on a kicker...

Flawed logic indeed. I questioned it when we drafted him. At the time I wasn't a big Carpenter fan but didn't understand why would they spend all that FA money and put it all on the foot of a rookie kicker.
He missed 8 of is last 24 kicks. Not very good. Thats 24 points we didn't make, could have been 5 wins. Lets say he only missed 4, we are in the playoffs.
That reason alone should get Ireland fired. Its like buying a ferrari and giving the keys to a 16 year old. That Philbin et al went along with that strategy should have them answering a ton of questions too. I would have told Ireland to fire me if he's going to give me a rookie kicker with a playoff or bust year.
Happy New Year.

Oh please. You can't be serious. This got to be a trolling attempt.:ponder:

Carpenter, Dan FGA 36 FGM 33 PCT 91.7
Sturgis, Caleb FGA 34 FGM 26 PCT 76.5

Ok, maybe he didn't cost us 5 games by himself, but the numbers above speak for themselves. With ALL of the problems, OL, the LB 'upgrade', Sherman... the kicker cost this team the playoffs. Ireland will go for this, as it is a reasonable ? to ask. Why did you waste a 5th and let Carpenter go? He's just fine.
What about the LBs you let go? They are doing fine too.
Ireland is gone. I'd bring in Schiano as DC, Chud for OC, and see if I could lure Pioli here. The roster he built in KC looks good to me.

Chudzinski and Schiano won't come here. I guess there could be a slim chance that Chudzinski could take the job, but I am sure he still thinks he has a shot at another head coaching position. I think the consensus is that he shouldn't have been fired - and quite a few young players developed into stars this year in Cleveland (Josh Gordon, Jordan Cameron, Mingo, etc.).

Schiano is an ego maniac. I doubt for a second he agrees to be a DC in the NFL...unless his good buddy Belichick offers him the job (if the Pats current DC gets a head coaching gig somewhere).

I would take Pioli in a heartbeat. But considering he is Bill Parcells' son-in-law, I have a feeling there wouldn't be a very good chance of a Pioli- Dolphins marriage.

Just imagine this....if we only held the opponents to three points a game we would be 15-1 and have home field advantage!!!!! WHOOT WHOOT!!

No he didn't, that was the excuse last year. it was all carpenter's fault, look at the QB and you have your answer.

The kicker cost us the Baltimore game with a missed FG and out of bounds kick off giving them a short field for the winning FG..

How many games did our inability to hit the long ball to a wild open receiver cost us ?????

Plenty of blame to go around if you ask me.

you had near 2 mins to get into decent FG range, plenty of time. Your O couldn't get into better range for your K and if not for your D scoring a TD you don't even have a chance.

after he kicked it OOB your D got a stop and took over at the Mia 26 w/ plenty of time in a tie game. Your K did NOT cost you that game.
