tanny hasnt REGRESSED, he just hasnt PROGRESSED.
in tanny's rooky year, he came out looking like a rooky should. especially one who was fairly new to the qb position.
he struggled early, started catching up in november and then by decembers end he looked like a real promising young qb.
the problem is, HE IS THE SAME QB WE SAW IN DECEMBER OF HIS ROOKY YEAR!! he made that big leap from his initial september start to where he got to in december but then never went any further. he is STILL making the same mistakes now as he did in december 2011. he is the exact same qb now as he was then.
he isnt regressing, he just hasnt progressed. he hasnt gotten any better at any point of his game and still cant hit the big play and leaves a TON of points on the field.
this offense shows up one of his biggest weaknesses in that he locks on to whoever is his primary. and that doesnt always mean he stares down his target, but in his mind, the primary guy is his target and he doesnt see anything else. THIS offense of lazors gives a qb MANY options and many plays, its why its so qb friendly. but tanny just doesnt see the whole field. if you tivo the games like i do and you re watch them, you can always tell who was suppose to be his primary on the play. and then you see when the primary gets taken out of the play by the defense, tanny misses or throws a pick or whatever. THEN you look at the play onyour tivo and see the others who got open that he SHOULD haves seen, especially after his main target was out of it, but he doesnt. SO MANY, MANY times this happens. you see one or two guys available for big yards or a td or first down besides the primary and 97% of the time, he doesnt see it. points left on the field.
MATT MOORE has NEVER been in a good offense. EVER!! he has been in bad situations from his first step into the nfl. his first team, already had a starter and solid backup. at camps end, it was a numbers game, he was gone. his next team stunk and was a loswer and a regime change took place, gone again. then in detroit he got a full camp and looked very good, won the "permanent" spot. got hurt early the following year and by the time he returned [probably to early] the team STUNK and was on its way to the top pick in the draft. a regime change took place and, like they ALWAYS do, they get rid of the qb, especially if he isnt a known name. and many times when this happens with teams, a baby gets tossed out with the bath water and i believe matt moore got tossed out with the bath water.
and his bad luck didnt stop when he came to miami. bad coaches. the worst gm in the nfl and one of the worst all time! neanderthal offensive schemes, no talenty at the skill positions and he gets thrown in at bad times, like after a huge miami loss and we get pounded the following game and then its back to the bench with moore.
people treat moore like he is some journeyman who could never beat anyone out or was a failure wherever he went and the truth is FAR from that.
he had a GREAT camp and the reason for that is, he had a FULL off season in an innovative offense that is qb friendly and good weapons around him.
i am saying all this because, as of right now, MATT MOORE DESERVES A SHOT, and that is probably the best move right now to sit tanny and give him a wake up call or time to re set and take it all in. either we find out moore is finally in the right element and the team salvages this season, or, they end up bringing tanny back in and his benching woke him up.
and as we ALL know, the backup qb is ALWAYS the most popular guy with the fans when things go bad and most of the time its knee jerk reacting. HOWEVER....., i do think its time to sit tanny for a spell and also get a look at moore. its the correct call for several reasons.
we now know that the second half of our first game with the pats was a fluke. the first half was the real stae of the team. and now we know that brady's smug look and not giving miami any props and his attitude of "we let ourselves get beat, they didnt beat us" was right. he was stating what they KNEW, and not just being a sore loser. they have won all their games since and miami has lost theirs. had the pats not gone to sleep in the second half, we are 0-3.
this season can ABSOLUTELY be salvaged. and we start that with giving tanny a seat and getting a PROPER look at matt moore.
and this isnt about ONE game and a knee jerk reaction. while everyon e else has been convinced tanny was a franchise qb already and just needed a better team, i have seen nothing but the same qb i saw in december of his rooky year. i knew it last year and i know it now. i DO NOT want hickey [or anyone else] giving him a franchise contract. that move will kill us for the next 10 years like wanny did passing on drew brees [twice!!]. we are STILL feeling the effects of that to this day!!
so, even if you agree or dont agree about tanny's abilites, now or for the future, onw thing NO ONE can deny, the kid is having his WORST outing at the time when when this season decides probably the rest of his career in the nfl, back up or starter. and most of all, THE MONEY! money that would keep he and his imediate and future family flush with funds for most or all their lives. having a BIG year and showing he is a true franchise qb gets him that epic contract at years end. i think its very telling about ryan tannehill. it is ALL on the line for him right now. his future, his nfl career and he is lying a BIG, FAT GOOSE EGG. no different than when the game is on the line, 3 seconds on the clock and a td wins the game. miami is on the 10 yd line. he has shown to be a choker in those situations and gained the rep of not having that killer mentality, that ice in his veigns when its now or nothing. coming out in the biggest time in his life and playing at his worst tells it all for me. i mean hey, if you cant bring it for that, what can you do it for?
RYAN TANNEHILL ISNT THE ANSWER. he does not deserve and shouldnt be given that franchise contract at seasons end so lets find out NOW by playing matt moore if we need 2 new qb's at years end or do we just need to find a backup for matt moore.
