**Super Thread** Clowney/Tunsil Trade Rumor (merged too many times)

Actually, this is precisely the type of move the new regime would make. Seizing a chance to audition a young potential super star cornerstone before having to pay them a large contract.... Rosen.

If this is genuine, this will happen.

He holds all the cards this year. This is his franchise tag year with Houston. He is in the driver's seat. Of course he has all the leverage on where he is traded. Hey Clowney Miami traded for you. Clowney - I'm not signing and extension w them. Houston - **** Miami just backed out.
phone can franchise him for two years. of course would it be worth the trouble if he does not feel all in?

That's spite and you know it. If they do they lose all value in Clowney. So here's their bluff. Clowney called it just like bell.

No idea what the compensation would be, but the idea of replacing Charles Harris or any other DE with Clowney could make this already promising defense scary! The only thing that would be holding them back is all of the three and outs produced by the Oline!

Is your rant over?
No. Leave it to this franchise to undo the only good thing they did this offseason by unloading overpriced underachieving veterans and getting valuable draft assets in the process only to turn around and make the same stupid mistakes only poorly run franchises make.

It really depends what the compensation is.

If they flat-out steal him for a third or something, this is a trial. He balls out and plays like the monster he can be? Awesome. Sign him long term, or franchise him. He doesn't? Let him sign elsewhere. This team can play with a lot of scratch-off tickets. See: Nkemdiche, Robert.

I believe in Clowney is real however I feel the Dolphins may be trying to take a page out of the Jimmy Johnson playbook, when he traded Hershel walker.

I can see Miami being content to trade for Clowney in all likely hood a player for player(or players 2:1) deal with possible a 4th rnd pick thrown in for Houston.

The idea on the return for Miami is trying to showcase Clowney at the end of the year either attempt to resign him, trade him or gain a comp pick for losing him as a FA.

I dont see the interest in Clowney being so much of a on field interest but more so another possible player asset that can be used to obtain more draft capital in the spring.

Ofcourse I can be completely wrong and they may feel with Clowney and Rosen they have corner stone players on both sides of the ball along with Tunsil,Fitzpatrick,Baker and possible other young players that will be given a chance this season that the focus next FA/Draft period will be adding to that foundation.

Im ok with a trade for Clowney if no draft picks or Tunsil is involved.
otherwise it doesnt make sense from a roster building perspective.

Take a deep breath any really review the situation. Ross needs to sell tickets. A cheap Clowney rental for a year does that. And if he can do it without losing what he was already going to cut. Come on its a no brainer business move. In 2020 it costs us zero. And if we don't trade draft picks...how is this dysfunctional.
I feel I should go back to collegiate education...to help the future...
Don't be condescending to me. I'll bet I'm older than you are. So you think trading for a defensive end is going to sell tickets? How stupid do you think fans are? They know this team is one of the worst teams in the league and believing that trading for a defensive end will sell tickets is laughable.

Do you really think this team is trying to trade for Clowney only as a one year rental? They are trying to trade for him with the intention of signing him to a long term contract. That alone should give any fan of this team pause because of the state this team is in, but if they trade draft assets in the process, the fans should be downright apoplectic. You know, it's really sad that it's come to the point that I have to root against my favorite team hoping for an all time bottoming out in order to, hopefully, turn this mess around, but that's exactly where I'm at. If they make this trade, I'm hoping Clowney refuses to sign a long term contract with Miami so Grier is so humiliated that Ross has no choice but to replace him. Trading for Clowney is a move that teams who are close to being a Super Bowl contender make, not a move that a team who may have the first pick in next year's draft make.

If you don't understand how Clowney will sell tickets then there is no explaining business to you. Move along, move along.

Couldn't the Dolphins franchise Clowney next year?

Yupper. Two more years actually. If you want to pay him that much.
I will cavet, that it depends on the new cba. Which honestly I believe will limit the number of franchise years to 2.

Pretty sure that would be moving forward; currently franchised players would be grandfathered, or the owners will lose their minds.
