**Super Thread** Clowney/Tunsil Trade Rumor (merged too many times)

If the draft pans out. I think they need to hit the o-line with 3 of their top 6 picks.

3 is tad heavy. 1 for sure and we can also look FA.

Great draft for CB and WR and RB and... We have other needs as well.

That said, -- we'll have oodles of ca$h to go fishing with -- and OL is a pond we're in for sure.

If we trade for Clowney, I don’t believe it counts against the compensatory pick formula. Isn’t that only for free agents signed before a specific date? (Like May 15ish?).
I think he means the compensation we give up.

I think most people would be amenable to a 3rd round pick and Stills or something of that nature. Losing Drake would be tougher for me.

Edit: if I am right, and I am pretty sure I am, we only stand to gain a comp pick

I'm talking draft compensation... Sorry.

They're going to want a DE, CB and a centre/tackle for sure. I think they'll also select another LB, and they'll spend two more picks on the OL.

Clowney had knee scoped post 2017 and 2018. If that's significant cartridge erosion (???)
then long-term athletic sustainability is a legit question -- as history tends to indicate.

In addition he missed 2 weeks in 2018 with a lower lumbar (unspecified) injury.

Obviously a fab athlete when he's right. But I think injury history is critical here
and knees/low back are POUNDED in the NFL. For me, serious red flag.

The guy has a huge reputation that he's only lived up to in spurts. Now he has injury issues. Haven't we learned from past mistakes about guys like this. Suh was just like Clowey with the huge College reputation and we didn't win anything with him. Can't we stick to what we were doing? We are amassing money and draft picks and at the same time dumping overblown contracts. It's a sucker play unless this guy is Lawrence Taylor.

If we got Clowney, it would only make sense if they gave up something marginal - no marquee young talents and no major draft picks.

Grier has preached the exact opposite of a big production move like this. SO... *if* they get Clowney, and the investment was ridiculous, it says more about Grier than anyone else.

Clowney is 26... 26.

Unlike most vets who are looking for a payday, he has lots of years left. If we are gonna take a shot, I'd suggest that a 26 year old pass rusher might be the way to go.

As talented as Clowney is. For the love of god, please not for $100m!!!

I wouldn't be surprised if they used him for a year or two then took compensation. I know it seems counterintuitive to a rebuild, but they want to get the D off the field. If Clowney comes to Miami I think the cost will be lower than anticipated. The Texans might just keep him, but they do need a RB and could use a 3rd wideout that can fill in for Fuller.

We'll see what eventually happens. But signing of Clowney would seem to be something the previous regimes would have done. This regime, so far, have shown they aren't going for the big names and instead would opt to build through the draft and develop their own players. A possible Clowney signing would seem to go against the early philoshy they've laid down.

The cost to get Clowney will definitely be lower than anticipated... players who want out of their current teams never generate much of a return. The other teams know they can make lowball offers and then wait...

Rosen is a pretty good example of this...
