CK - I respect your opinion as much as anyone on this board. But do you think, that if Simon was in his old shape, that the Dolphins would have offered him the most lucrative contract of any DL? isn't that what the Colts gave him? I'm curious to know if you think they would.

Evidence suggests that the Colts did not offer him the kind of coin that it would initially appear they did. A lot of his guaranteed money is tied into an option bonus next year so basically they could release him after this year and get away without much in cap ramifications.

I believe that if Corey was in tip top shape yes the Phins may have ponied up an $11 million signing bonus on a 5 year deal worth close to $30 million, if that's what it would have taken to get him. As an "under" defensive tackle in the 4-3 he rivals Richard Seymour in his dominance, and as a RDE in the 3-4 he would also be dominant.

Kevin Carter and Corey Simon bracketing a huge NT like Keith Traylor with someone else grooming for the position, backed by Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas, and Channing Crowder at OLB and ILB would give the Dolphins a legitimate chance of having an outright better defense than the New England Patriots.

Would you pay to have that? I would.
