Agent Brian Levy said Monday that it's unlikely free-agent safety Lance Schulters will sign unless he receives a better contract offer.

"I'm not anticipating anything in the near future with him and the Dolphins," Levy said.

"At this point, we haven't been able to come to an understanding that both sides are happy with, but we'll continue to talk in good faith."

Schulters made a free-agent visit with the Dolphins last month shortly after being released by Tennessee because of salary-cap reasons.

Levy said the Dolphins had some concerns about the foot injury that sidelined Schulters for 13 games last season but that his client had passed a physical "and could play right now."

If he signs, it is believed Schulters would compete with Travares Tillman for starting free safety

I think he'd beat out Schulters fairly easily.

Hopefully the talks pick up....I'd love to have him here.

Who Tillman? No way!! Schulters has been a productive starter for years while Tillman is pretty much a ST guy.

HysterikiLL posted so early in the morning. Maybe he still had sleepies in his eyes.

I cant believe the fins wont give him what he wants. If he doesnt go to us we are very screwed. Our secondary last year didnt cause that many ints.Sammy knight had 4 and surtain had 4 0r 5 and they are both in KC.We need you Lance!!!!!!!!

we won't be screwed with the pressure that we will put on the QB we will be getting more sacks and also force more bad throws which could result in INTs

if you want more INTs then we should sign Terrell Buckley he always gets INTs every year

The best part about this story is that, for the first time, it proves we are aggressively seeking Shulters and it doesn't seem that anyone else it. Levy's comments are typical agent speak saying that they are working details out and Shulters should be signed by Sunday, or at least that's how I intrepret his comments.

This is great news because it is no longer a rumor, by now reported by his agent that we are close.

I think he wants to sign here. But again, he has nothing to lose by waiting a few more days, trying to get a little more money.

Here's an interesting question: If the Dolphins offer is the best on the table, would Schulters return to Tennessee if the Titans match it or add just a little more?? The intangible would be familiarity with the area and the system.

I think Shulters has nothing to lose and is playing us against the Titans. Since there is probably not that much difference between what we and the Titans are offering him, I believe the Dolphins are his first choice; otherwise he would have already signed with the Titans. This time of the year, there won't be much on the table, so Lance is just holding out for the best possible deal.

There doesn't seemed to be a whole bunch of teams beating down his door. Sometimes players have a self inflated value of their worth. Once training camp starts, he will sign with someone.
