Tannehill - A more athletic Henne?

You just put "henne" there to try and draw readership to your thread. Sensationalism sells anymore, it seems.

Im a big Phins fan and despite what you think I like the pick. Henne came into this league and into this team with similar expectations and talent (without the athleticism which bumped him a round down) as Tannehill. When I see mistakes like the ones Tannehill made it makes me scratch my head the same I scratched it when Henne played. Not sensationalizing anything. As you can see from my post count and activity I could care less about creating big threads or stacking my post count, unlike some of us *cough cough*.

He's not the same type of QB that Henne is. At all. Having a bad game doesn't make him like a QB who sucks because of the bad game. It means he had a bad game.

That's like saying Tannehill is like another Pat White because he had a bad game. It's just words that don't mean anything.

I agree with you, but if a nobody like me is going to vent on a forum about his concerns regarding a talented rookie with more potential than hardcore success you better believe it's going to be based on games that matter the most. About games that you either sink as expected ("no pressure"), tread lightly, or surprisingly swim. As many nice plays Tannehill made there were just as many bad ones. Watch the tape.

In the game against against Oklahoma, all 3 INTs were on the QB. He either didn't see the zone defender or forced a pass (which didn't even give the WR a chance to make a play based on the WR's positioning). One thing that definitely made me feel weary was when Tannehill threw for a score late against Texas to take a lead and no one even gave him a high five. It's like they scored despite him. Remind you of anyone?

Some bad games against Oklahoma and Texas, two teams that perennially kick A&M in the teeth with a fair amount of regularity (didn't OU beat A&M 77-0 in 03 or 04?). The team didn't match up well, and he made a few bad decisions? Well ****, he must be like Henne then, I guess we probably should have drafted a CB or DL in the 1st.

"He had a bad game, so he reminds me of Henne." Jesus Christ. People put labels on all sorts of **** anymore. The kid hasn't even taken a mini-camp snap, and already we're starting to hear the distant caws of the "he sucks like Henne" crows. Hopefully they stay in the distance.

Let's see how he does before we start giving labels out.

Well said & agreed.

In the OP's defense (:rolleyes2:) He could have compared Tannehill to Ray Lucas.

I hope RT is completely different than Henne in the scoring and interception department.
RT doesn't have that Henne skin flap above his eyebrows with his helmet on.

Chad Henne is a robot and Tannehill has more touch and feel for the game. The speed is just icing on the cake.

I'm only basing this on the 2011 games vs Texas and Oklahoma, which I happened to see on youtube.

These were big games against bigger and better competition. Obviously it wouldn't be an easy game for any college QB with so few starts but the number of clear-cut boneheaded plays, and display of inaccuracy was deflating. You can blame it on a lack of good protection or a mediocre WR corps but the plays I'm referring to those things weren't the problem. It gave me flashbacks of Henne. The kid has the potential based on his athleticism and arm but dang . If the Phins expect Tannehill to succeed then I agree with the pundits when they say he will definitely need to sit the entire year, period. I'm excited to see him become a great QB for Miami. He couldn't be in a better situation (re-building year, expert QB-grooming coach, familiar offense) and I hope he prepares well enough to soak it all in.

You should watch more of his games. At least 4 to 6 of them are available on you tube. Don't make an assement after watchinng one game.
:rolleyes2:

Be careful when using team stats like wins. There's a lot that goes into that stuff. There are QBs that you can watch college tape on who always throw TDs and put up good numbers and the team wins a lot and they don't translate at all in the NFL. There are QBs who have very mediocre college careers but translate much better to the NFL. You're better off putting blinders on and looking specifically at what the QB is capable of. In the NFL he will be surrounded by better talent, and that includes both sides of the ball.

"Rising to the occasion" type analysis makes Kellen Moore look like an NFLer.

Why the personal shot at me for my post count? You're just trying to deflect away from the normal discussion and try to get into a discussion about post-whoring.

Tannehill and Henne are two completely different QBs. Henne only came with high expectations because he was the QB we got. Just like if we'd have gotten Brady Queef in 2007 (which I, admittedly was for), he'd have had astronomical expectations. He had talent, to be sure, and was a fairly successful QB in college, but it just didn't translate.

John Beck had a lot of awesome games in college, I guess we probably should have stuck with him too. Matt Ryan had a penchant for throwing a lot of picks and had the stigma of never really being able to win big games. Clearly, using your logic Beck >>> Ryan, and Ryan might as well have been the next AJ Feeley.

So yeah, your premature pants-shytting is just that, premature pants-shytting. I'm sorry you don't like my blunt approach to it, but there's no need to attack me personally. I'm giving you respect and questioning your post, you're getting mad and taking cheap shots.

Ray Lucas??

You do bring up a good point though. Which other Phin QB should I have compared (talent and EXPECTATION-WISE) Tannehill to? Beck? Seriously. Most had high hopes for Henne this season. Damn this thread is totally being hijacked by Henne. That was not my intention.

We all like to make our own amateur assessments. I made it based on 2 games. Games where he faced the most adversity and pressure. The kind he will face in the National Football League. I was hoping to see sparks scattered here and there but there really weren't any. Only red flags. NOT HATING ON RT. I can't wait to see him get better and not cost this franchise another 4-5 years at the bottom of the AFC EAST.

My biggest battle cry is trying to get people to put a lot less emphasis on college production. There are just too many factors that go into that type of analysis to rely on any sort of implied causation there.

I would say you shouldn't look for comparisons that aren't there.

Personal? How about you dissecting my thinking mentality and assuming I compared RT to Henne just for the "sensationalism?" Come on.

Can someone delete this thread? It's useless and it's giving me a headache. Personal journals +1

I didn't personally attack you. I merely said that it was sensationalist in order to draw viewership to your thread, where it otherwise may have clunked to the bottom like a rusted bike in a lake.

You took it personally, and instead chose to slam me for my post count, which, there was no reason at all for you to do. I'm sorry you got asshurt that I dared call the thread "sensationalist", but that's exactly what it is. I was attacking your post, you were attacking me. Big difference.

"OH MY GOD, HE HAD A BAD GAME!! WE'VE GOT HENNE V2.0!!!!11!". It's sensationalist, just like the majority of news coverage today.
