I agree to a point. But think about it this way. How can we get better than 9 win average hell, if we dont have certain players within the team, who are willing to get in a guys face because he's putting out 9 win effort and let him know that its not acceptable and if he doesn't correct it, we'll go find his replacement who will put out 12-14 win effort. Somebody has to be the leader.

Trying to motivate a player who isn't putting out maximum effort is stupid.

If a player isn't already trying to be the best he can be, and competing at his best every single day, then cut his ass. Bring in players who don't need to be yelled at. Don't bring in losers and then say you NEED a leader to yell at them to try hard.

That's just a stupid strategy.

I'm just fed up with the Dolphins and their garbage. Talk talk talk talk. That's all they do every year, and then go and put up a crappy season. Rinse and repeat. I just want to tell them to shut the **** up until they actually do something on the field.

I think that we may do even better than that. There is a lot more talent on the roster than I have seen in many years.

I am not sold on Tannehill as the answer. My main issues are his intangibles.
This however, is what I want to see. Great leaders know how and when to to get the attention, even jack a guy up if need be. Good for RT I want to see him being more assertive and take the role as leader bc of his position on the field. At this point, we only go as far as our QB will take us.
Someone said "fake it until you make it"- Although I don't think RT is faking it, I completely agree.
He has to demand respect and buy in that he is the guy and knows he is the guy!

You want to cut every player who isn't putting maximum effort on every play in PRACTICE in JUNE...We wont have enough guys to fill a roster.
Fact is, guys dog it in practice, veteran more than rookies. They need a kick in the ass sometimes, and it means a lot more coming from a peer, or leader on the team than a position coach or emotionless Joe

You are completely ignoring the secondary effect of holding Mathews accountable. Other players pickup their game. Also, a little extra effort helps the offense as a whole practice a faster pace. It is not a wasted effort.

I just don't see Tanny as a leader, dunno why, in school/College terms, I see him as one of the cool kids, one of the guys at your school that was good a pretty much everything. That guy doesn't make a good leader unless as was pointed out earlier in the thread, they begin to lead by example, and he is not there yet. He still comes over to me as someone who is trying to learn the position, trying to first and foremost prove himself to the coaches that he is the franchise QB and until then he'll never gain the full respect of his team mates. The coaching staff are trying to help him by giving him no true competition.

In order to be a leader, he has to have that, very few have, Manning is a natural, Brees too as I think of the younger brigade is Andrew Luck. Others by their performances on the field have gained it like Rodgers and Brady and that is where Tanny is trying to prove himself.

Dude - the big comment coming from a number of Dolphin players is the obvious progress that they see in Ryan Tannehill's leadership. Don't be confused by the softly spoken polite guy that you see in the interviews, there is a much tougher side to him that none of us get to see.
