Tannehill must start from day 1

Tannehill must start day 1 as it stands right now.

Lets face it, the kid is smart and works at his craft and knows this offense. How many rookie QB's know the offense and can audible from hurry up? Its baby steps. Gotta play.

But I think what will be on Philbin's mind is Tannehill getting hurt so protecting him vs. 2's and 3's is wise and still give Moore all the chance to redeem for team sake is what will happen this preseason. They will let Thill prove it through preseason and not give it to him until game one.

Moore also did not beat a single team with a winning record or a top defense. The teams he beat were KC, Washington, the Bills, once against a very dysfunctional Jets team at the end, and a bad Raiders team.

You're right I am a nobody in the franchise and I am okay with that, but to sit behind stats like QB rating to make a claim that Matt Moore should lead this team, never playing in a west coast offense before, never playing with the current coaching staff before should start over someone with superior talent is ludicrous.

It was fun to see Matt Moore succeed last year, it's been painfull to be a Dolphin fan the past decade or so, now having a QB with talent, I may be effin crazy, but I want to see the kid grow and become the player he thinks he can be and who this coaching staff believes he will be.

Moore is an after thought, its fine that your living in 2011, his finish last year was so enjoyable and as long as Moore is a Dolphin I will root for him to succeed! I think with as great as you say he did last year and the team goes out a selects someone at his position in the draft with the 8th overall selection is kind-of damning for that said player, just to be frank, IMO.

The fact is he was 6-7 as a starter, had a turnover problem with interceptions, fumbles and batted passes at the line of scrimmage. Also doesn't practice particularly well, so that just doesn't bode well for the guy, especially considering last nite he started of the 2012 preseason with more of the same problems. He does show nice deep accuracy, but doesn't show quick decision making, his short area accuracy is not as good as it should be and in a WCO, that will be detrimental to his growth and/or ability to actually play.

I'm not trying to fight with you or to name call, I'm just stating what I see. I have eyes, and I have been following football as a fan of not just my favorite team but others as well, I love college ball, and the excitement of the draft, I felt that RT17's performance last night passed my eyes test. Now I want to see him perform with our #1's against the other teams #1's. I don't understand why you would say we would be in real trouble as an organization if I was calling the shots.....I mean really, what could I screw up if I was calling the shots? We havent done squat since early 2000's. I see a ton of terrible mistakes since then....but now, with the QB depth we have and a stud rookie QB, I feel that the future finally looks good!

Yup, let's put our rookie QB out there right away. It's worked out so well in the past. lol

Yeah well It worked with all of our 1st round pick QB's thus far with this franchise. As a matter of fact, the 2 QB's we selected in the first round that started for us in their rookie years went on to have fabulous careers and became Hall of Famers, so yeah, lets go out and repeat Dolphin lore, and go ahead and start the rookie QB for history to repeat itself!

*facepalm* what flip said, lets keep the kid alive for a year or two before we let him get wrecked.

Oh yeah, wasn't this kid playing against 2's and 3's. Just relax let's do an Aaron Rodgers type thing, sit for a little then later come in. It worked out pretty good for Rodgers.

I'm pretty sure I mentioned that he was playing against 2nd and 3rd string in my posts. Also, its not like I am saying something from left field. If we had someone who could start in front of him that was better than him, or better for the team, than yeah, let sit him, and have him learn, and get caught up to the speed of the game. That method works for some guys, it did wonders for Rodgers and Mcnair, no doubt. But I mentioned a short list of QB's that came out their rookie year and were able to play well and grow on the job. I just want us to see good football, to have a QB lead us to the playoffs and begin to win again. It's been so long, and if starting RT17 jumpstarts the process and if he's clearly the guy, why wait. Why wait with mediocre play from some veterans that right now wouldnt start on about 25 other teams?

Let me start out with, I don't see this team making the playoffs... I did see a young gun slinger tonight though.

WE HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE! Let Tannehill sling it 40 times a game in the west coast offense! Hes got some touch and can put some zip on it when needed. Throw him to the fire just like the Bengals did with Dalton and the Panthers with Cam last year. The Colts with Luck and the Redskins with RG3 and the Browns with Weeden this year. Hes our top pick, playing in an offense he understands. He has his college coach with him everyday at work for god sake! This team is going no where under David Garrard or Matt Moore. We have the 2 worst corners in the league (Sean Smith / Vontae Davis) even though they have the physical tools to be the best... We might as well see what we got before we waste another 2-3 years on a Chad Henne or a John Beck...

Even with Vontae's and Sean's inconsistency, they are far from the 2 worst corners in football. Hell just last season this board was on VD's dick about him finally being elite with that impressive 8 game stretch

Playing with 2s and 3s has nothing to do with him not throwing good passes, he has the right touch and velocity on his throws. He had nice passes

The future

As a Steelers fan I know a thing or two about starting young QBs (Big Ben) and can tell you that as long as you have a great supporting cast as we did his rookie year you can make it work. Our offense had to be dumbed down quite a bit as he threw to only one side of the field and had just two reads, but he was talented enough to get it done. He got exposed in the playoffs to the Cheatriots but obviously did well enough in year two to lead us through playoffs (playing very well) and winning a SB (playing very bad). Difference between what I remember seeing from him and what I have seen from Tannehill is that Ryan appears way more advanced then Ben. Ryan looked poised, went through his progressions, and raised the level of play of those around him (Clay and Wallace) whereas Ben was just trying to survive and not screw things up. Ryan looks like more of a leader as well. We all know Ben is as dumb as a bowl of mice and to this day cannot process information quickly or read defenses. It's this fault along with porous o line in past that leads to his scrambling (which he is maybe best ever at) when plays break down. thing is, he is very much responsible for why these plays break down. From seeing and listening to Ryan it just seems he is more cerebral than Ben. He is more athletic as well. So my take it is if he is truly a franchise qb you start him from day one. People point to Rodgers when trying to justify saying he should sit. But Rodgers was not at all ready and had a hall of fame QB in front of him. Rodgers was a hot mess when he came out and needed years to develop. If anyone knows the difference it's Philbin who witnessed this and surely knows if someone is ready to run his offense. You combine this with Ryan's knowledge and comfort with Sherman and it's a no brainer. Let's be real here, you aren't winning more than 5 games unless you had Rodgers or Brady out there and then you'd maybe be .500. So let the kid get ready and with another draft and FA you can be that darling team next year.

Exactly!

I think whether you start him as a rookie depends greatly on how you think he will respond to the difficulties rookie QB's have in the NFL. If his ego can handle the ups and downs he WILL go through why wait??? You just postponing his real development. However, if you think a 20 interception year will hurt his development you have to be careful. Every player is different, and the coaches need to assess how Ryan will deal with what will be thrown at him. My impression is that he can handle it, but the coaches who are around him every day should obviously have a better handle on that than any of us. Whether Moore or Tanny start this year, we aren't going deep in the playoffs if we make it at all. In that case, I'd rather play Tanny (given he can handle the pressure), even if it means a couple fewer wins. Just means were in better position to draft weapons to help him next year.

This kid is clearly ready to go...will he improve, of course he will. Just as Peyton Manning, John Elway and nearly every other rookie starter did in the past.

He will improve faster on the field than holding a clipboard.

If he looked lost out there I would say sit him, but he does not.
