Tannehill Needs To Start From Day 1

They could've drafted Luck anyway, and try to restructure peytons contract. No doubt Luck seems to be ok in college, but those receivers he was throwing to was wide open it won't be that easy in the NFL.

When they got word that he was getting better they still got rid of him LOL

Ya because at that point the had the #1 pick and were going to draft Luck. It was the smart thing to do because they wanted to start Luck from the get go. They are doing the right thing.

But they didn't want Luck to sit behind Manning on the bench.

No he waits, just like brady, and rogers. He sits on the bench waiting his turn. Finally when the time comes he will play. Personally I am not happy with this pick but then again Im not joe philbin who tought rogers the way of the nfl. So if they think he can do this well my only choice is to wait and see what this kid can do. Being a wide receiver has probably helped this kid out. I saw this kid along with others on jon grudens qb camp and I actually liked him. He is intelligent and has SO MUCH experience in this west coast offense. He is ready, and so am I. But starting him to early may ruin it for him. You have to understand that the miami dolphins qb position is some what cursed in a way. Dan marino and Bob griese haunt it and those shoes will intimidate anyone along with our perfect season. Give this kid time and he may produce. He may not be the next marino but if he is anything close to what this staff thinks he is, well get ready to draft some offensive weapons.

What does "hold the fort" mean? Remain the third best team in the AFC East?

I think everybody would agree that Tannehill was a reach at 8 which is a fail in itself and now people are saying not only did we reach for a player but we reached for a player that we didn't even need. EPIC FAIL.

Anyway, Darlington just quoted Ireland as saying 'he didn't draft a guy at 8 to be a backup' so hope that turns out to be the case.

More like "fourth best team in the AFC East" unless the Jests crap the bed even worse than they look likely to do.

The reality is that the Fins used the #8 pick in the draft on a QB who is NOT ready to play in the NFL. He's a converted WR FCOL!

He's either going to be third string to Matt Moore, an UDFA journeyman, and David Garrard who was out of football last season or he's going to start and demonstrate just how NFL-unready he is. His unreadiness for the NFL has nothing to do with "knowing Mike Sherman's offensive system" (which wasn't all that great BTW) and everything to do with NOT having developed QB skills while in college that would enable him to have some success against NFL defenses because he was playing WR.

The really sad part for Miami is that if you start Tannehill and he's awful like Blaine Gabbert (or John Beck), Miami might actually have a 2012 record bad enough to get them Matt Barkley in next year's draft. Maybe there is a silver lining to drafting Tannehill after all.

Brady and Rodgers are totally different situations. Brady was drafted in the 6th round and the Patriots had a proven QB in Drew Bledsoe at the time. The only reason Brady played to begin with was because Bledsoe got hurt. Rodgers fell into the 20's and didn't need to play right away because the team still had Brett Favre. Its night and day and I am tired of hearing about the situation with the Dolphins being the same. Tannehill was a top 10 pick and should be expected to produce right way based on being that high of a pick. Plus he doesn't have world beaters to beat out at that position.

I agree with you.

Play the best QB to start the season, and that guy will be the one wins the job this summer. no need to announce a starter before we see the guys practice......hopefully the fans and coaching staff will give this kid a chance to be successfull.......

eli sat the first 7 weeks and he was drafted 1 overall
carson palmer sat for a year and he was drafted 1 overall

Or picking him at #8 was a failure. I don't want to hear about how he needs to sit and learn for a year or two. If he can't beat out Moore and Garrard, he wasn't worth picking at #8. Its that simple. Guys like Dalton did well starting from day 1 last year, Tannehill needs to do the same.

I dont think we have to start him yet... We have two serviceable QB's in moore and garrard. Let him learn first

Agreed, Let him sit until the season is lost.. (Hope the season won't be lost)

starting him day one would be stupid to me..Right now Miami has mininal weapons and an inconisten offensive line..Throwing him out there now would be suicide...

Matt Moore has one year left on his contract...Why not use it up?

This is Matt Moore's team now. If Miami starts off losing games and the offense is not moving the ball then you make the switch..

If Ryan comes into camp and blows Moore away and elevates others around him you start him...Thats for sure...But do we see that happening?

I think it can with the connectin that Ryan has with Sherman he has a leg up on every rookie qb coming out in this years draft...Lets see if he can take advantage of that.

Then why draft the guy at #8 if your going to sit him? They could have drafted someone else and had him come in and make an immediate impact. This team can't afford to draft guys that might pan out down the road, they need instant starters.

Stop with all this make him sit for a year and develop him bullssshhh. Ryan Tannehill was selected by the Miami Dolphins with the 8th overrall pick. The rest of the TOP TEN picks got players they want to use now. The Phins chose to draft a project player? This guy better start. His old coach is our new offensive coordinator. RT should already be ahead of these guys by knowing more about the WCO. Go Phins.

Ponder sat for some time last year...Locker too...When you have a capable vet in front of him you sit him unless circumstances come up...
