(On QB Ryan Tannehill, Texas A&M, and his familiarity with the offensive playbook) – “Well, I was a little shocked when (assistant quarterbacks coach) Zac Taylor came...they met at 7:00 and he came back at 10:00 and said they were done. The guy’s already done. I said, gee, Zac, three hours and the kid knows the whole playbook. We might need to spend more time in coaches’ meetings if this is the problem. We’ve been here three months and the guy’s learned the offense in three hours. Again, I don’t know how many guys – I was talking to Kim Bokamper early this morning – how many guys were drafted today, two hundred fifty seven? I would guess that two or three other guys in the whole draft felt as comfortable as Ryan Tannehill did walking into a building. I would guess. And it may not have been anyone else, but there certainly weren’t a lot of guys that would have had the comfort level that he did today. And I think that’s good for a little while. Because he’s such a competitor, I don’t think it’s going to be an issue. I know we aren’t getting a complacent player because he feels like he knows a couple of people. That’s really the exact opposite. The only reason he’s here is because of his competitive nature and athletic ability. I think he and Zac…they met last night, they met this morning before you guys met with him at 10:00, he had already put in a good morning’s work. I think he’ll be off to a good start.”

Couldn´t be more exited about this kid, he is being put into a good situation, this just might work out for us!!

TOOK US -29- years to draft a QB in the 1st round again.

FINALLY things are looking up. Feels good to not have another 2nd round bargain bin garbage QB prospect.

He really does have a clear advantage to win the starting spot. I think it comes down to how good of a teacher and motivator he is to help our offense learn the system. If he has "It", he will earn respect from the team and that will go along way towards them playing their hardest for him.

I think he is gonna win the starting job. I could be wrong, but I think his comfort level with Mike Sherman means they will be willing to throw him out there day one.

I don't think a guy who was willing to swap from QB to WR as an 18-19 year old and who demonstrated he could take those hits is gonna be intimidated by the speed of the game.

I agree. I think if nothing else he will have a legit chance to win the starting spot. Now he will have to earn it...but I dont think it is one of those situations where no matter how good he looks he wont start.

He will be helped by a much better coaching staff. Coaching can make a world of a difference to a player.

Please let him sit for a year. I want him to develop to thew speed of the game. I want to see our Oline gel, and not leave him to the wolves like previous young QBs on our roster. Let the whole team gel and catch up to the new offense, then put him in there. IMO.

I'm with you interms of letting him sit. However, if he knows the playbook and can run the offense probably better(at this point) than any of the Qbs on the roster because of his knowledge of that playbook....then why wait?

If he isnt ready then yeah..he should sit. But if he is the best QB in camp and preseason...then he should start. You build your team around the QB...he needs to be part of the gelling you are talking about.

he will not start this year, they just won't do it, no matter how comfortable he is with the offense.

Speed of the game is completely different. He could know the playbook inside and out but still be unprepared for a good defense. Starting him against Wade Phillips Houston defense would not be the best start to his career.

Also we have protection issues. As bad as it sounds, if we are going to give up sacks id rather have it happen with our journeyman qb's and not our potential franchise quarterback. John Beck went into a shell shock in '07. Trent Edwards turned into a checkdown artist, in part, because of the Bills horrid line. And, most recently, Blaine Gabbert cant take his eyes off the offensive line because hes so concerned about being hit(though hes always had this problem apparently).

Tannehill isnt the only one learning. Our offensive line is still gelling and our receivers are learning a new system. Id rather be careful with Tannehill than throw him to the wolves to soon. I mean, lets face it, even the most optimistic have to admit we arent making a superbowl run next season.
