Tannehill versus Wilson: Did we draft the right quarterback?

Flynn signed March 19, before the draft. Draft over a month later.. but as I observed before when it comes to being NFL-ready, Pete Carroll knows his QBs. Through the luxury of 20/20 hindsight, Wilson would have gone #1, Luck #2 to Wshington, Tannehill #8 still and RG3 somewhere in the teens if he got by KC at #12 (the scuttlebutt being where RT would have ended up if we passed him by)

This has got to be one of the worst threads seriously

I'm with you. I guess if we're in spilt milk mode, we should go back and review 2001, 2005, 2008 also. might make for some interesting conversation about stats and draft picks and woes and possible records and superbowl wins that we've never ever discussed around here.

I bet we have more wins with Wilson behind center...Seattle was missing 3/5 of its OL for much of the season due to injury and Wilson was taking a ton of sacks, the difference is he wasn't turning the ball over.....the offense was able to keep field position by punting....

His number would not be as good as they are now but I bet we have 2-3 more wins and winning this week would be eliminating most team from playoff contention instead of staying alive.....

I have to disagree with you. I believe we would be in the exact same spot. If we had the OC, and yes I think coaching is a huge part of success in the NFL, we would have more wins. We don't have half the rb they have on that team. He has to be accounted for everytime he's in the game. We have also had 3/5ths of our Oline taken away. I feel that we don't use guys in their best spots or put us in the best position to succeed. I've said this in another thread, why would we not run the read option 4-5 times a game? Lets make team think about it. It would open running lanes for our rbs, but also allow us time with PA to throw deep. If I'm the coach I tell Ryan to throw a bomb within our first series. Its an order. I do it now coaching High School football just to make the safeties think about it all game. If you complete it great, if you don't it served its purpose. Notice how we threw deep versus Carolina nd the Jets safeties stayed back more in that game and we had better success running the ball? Its all about putting more in the heads of the enemy. We don't do that enough. Sure we try to run but we don't give different looks when running. Why not Read option on thrid and 1? Can only give us a better chance the the crap we've been trying. Wilson would be lockd into the same situation here. Our coaches are more rigid. Seattle and Pete Carroll coach like its backyard ball. Its fun too watch.

I still think Luck goes #1. RWJR has more talent around him and a great defense to put him in good field position. But RW def goes top 2

Like everyone, I don't like these threads, but then like everyone, I somehow feel the need to post. :)

Yes, Wilson is better than Tannehill right now. That's how drafts work - you can always look back years later and say "If only we'd picked that guy - he's definitely better than the one we picked". If you asked Cleveland now, I bet they would rather have picked T-hill than Trent Richardson. Then they wouldn't have had a first round RB bust, and a QB bust (Weedon) to boot.

Wilson is a freakin' beast. Very pocket saavy and an extremely high football IQ.

If Seattle were so convinced about Wilson a) they wouldn't have paid Matt Flynn starter money and b) they would've drafted him in the first or second round.
You are correct again. However, it does not dilute Seattle's skill in correctly evaluating Wilson's talent/upside potential and ignoring the maxim that QB's have too be over 6' tall (preferably over 6'3") to play in the NFL. The Seattle GM made a good call in being prepared to give Wilson a chance and every other GM had that same opportunity (Jacksonville, New York Jets, Cleveland, Minnesota, Buffalo, Tampa Bay and other teams would now love to have made that call). The fact that he had an each way bet, Flynn vs Wilson, doesn't negate the significance of getting a very good QB in the third round.

I'm still waiting for the, "Henne tearing up Titans. We should have kept Henne he's way better than Tannehill", thread.

I'll end with one final comment - even all of you who think shouright is such a hater... if you actually read the content of his posts all he ever says is that he wants to see Tannehill throw the ball less - which is what we need. If we have more offensive balance and Tannehill is throwing the ball 25-35x/game because we've been effectively balancing our offensive attack, you'd see the quality of his throws skyrocket.

Great post right up till this part of it.

I dont think it's necessary to advise anyone to read or not read or suggest what people should do regarding other people posts. Shouright has posted enough on the board for us to understand what he's saying and not saying. Shouright doesnt have hate in any of his posts but when you try as hard as he does to drive his agenda with stats after stats after stats and polls after polls, the response he gets is similar to a Tanny hater.

I'll put it this way.You suggesting that we aren't understanding Shouright's posts are almost as bad as Shouright pushing stats every week because us fans aren't smart enough to understand how a player is playing so I'll help these guys think with data.....

It's not like he's saying hey look here's another site which has a different angle at aquiring data.He pushes the stats on us to sway us into his Tannehill is another Henne drivel ....see look at my number charts.

I agree it was a good post until that paragraph... shouright is full of it, ignore that portion :p
