Tannehill vs Luck Updated

Luck has probably avoided more sacks, but I don't think Tannehill could have avoided 20 something sacks, to make the sack total between the two, comparable.

There are certainly many times where he has no chance but I have seen a lot of sacks where the QB had enough time to make a decision and get rid of the ball, at the very least throw it away or run with it.

PFF also shows Ryan Tannehill as like the 8th best QB in the NFL. So if we're using PFF rankings, yeah.

lots of factors when deciding to throw a ball away, or taking a sack. like intentional grounding or getting picked off. I agree with the scrambling, on some plays. but as it's been stated on here before, he may be getting coached to try and stay in the pocket, and not become reliable on scrambling all the time.

I don't believe in these rankings but it at least shows the OLs are closer than you think but at pff they rate Miami's OL better than Indy's:

The problem I have with those rankings is that they treat all members of the OL equally. How many here believe that at struggling RG in pass protection is the same as a struggling LT? They also combine blocking and pass blocking and we are talking about sacks here. The biggest problem for the Dolphins has been the play of the tackles. This has been confirmed by the team trading for McKinnie and benching Clabo. This is what PFF had to say about the two lines:

Indy:
The team gets good play from their tackles, particularly free agent signing Gosder Cherilus (+11.3) who has been exactly what they hoped he would be.

Miami:
He’s been better recently but there was a reason why Tyson Clabo (-7.7) was benched after a terrible start to the year.

Aggregate OL grades as a measure of unit performance aren't that useful in this case. If you have six disastrous plays during a game, but you're good for 44 other plays, you still probably had a bad football game.

Your OL won't win the game for you, only lose it.

Stats and rankings only mean anything to JUNK if they help his cause. Not when they don't.

Nothing like being specific.....

I don't take notes during Miami games, many times I am flipping around to all the games and I will watch a series here and there. Sometimes I see protection problems, other times it appears it is more on the QB. None of us really know though but to blame it all on the OL(or all on the QB) wouldn't be fair.

Your exaggeration of you have seen "a lot" of sacks where the QB had enough time to throw the ball away, also while admitting you only saw 3 games yet now it's you flick back and forth and caught enough sacks to have determined it to be a lot?

It's more closer to some are on the 2nd year QB,not "a lot" are the QB's fault. The "a lot" are on the Oline/RB,TE,FB protection side of concern.

bingo...mckinnie has helped with the consistency and not being overpowered back into the qb...luck is damn good at avoiding sacks and pressure no doubt about it...tannehill is not that level...not sure he ever will be...but he's also not a finished product either in that regard OR ANY REGARD for that matter...elephant in the room though has been the play of the tackles in pass pro this year or collapsing pockets around the qb...no not every sack is on the oline but the freaking vast majority of em has been...

you know the players that are finished products...
