Some have been saying that this was a ballsy move by Ireland. I don't see it that way. If Tannehill is another failure like Henne Ireland will go down with the ship...but it may take another 4 years for that determination.

Picking Tannehill was the ONE move Ireland could make that would guarantee he stays on for 2 more drafts, since any struggles the team has can be pinned on the grooming of a young QB.

Please note: This is not meant to be a post hostile to Ireland, so there's no need to draw the usual battle lines around it. I just want to see if people agree with the logic behind it.

With the ego everyone likes to pin on Ireland here I believe if he did not think Tannehill was a top ten he would not have drafted him.

I understand your point and I don't view it as hostile to Ireland but at least he took a shot at a glaring team need. I give him credit for that, the new CBA makes it easy to move on now if you miss.

Miami knew who they wanted and grabbed him, that is a win. Now let us all hope it pans out for once! We need a good break Tara! Go Fins!

Ireland had Sherman's help on this. It was'nt a shot in the dark. It's a good pick. I just wonder how long it will be til the fans start calling for Tannehill to replace Moore during the season.

IMO mostly this is an indication that Sherman who knows a thing or two about QBs has a lot more conviction in Tanny's upside than Philbin had in Flynn's.

This does probably buy him a few seasons, but Jeff Ireland is trying to keep his job not prolong his firing. I think he honestly thinks Tanny is a good player and worth the value of the 8th pick.

This was just a great pick. The right pick. Miami FINALLY made a meaningful investment in the quarterback position.

This tells me that Sherman thinks highly of Tannehill. I fail to see how this is a bad pick.

agreed...i think the pick buys him at least 1 more year, especially if we cn get lucky enough not to have to put the kid in like what happened with beck...

The cost was a factor
