Dol-fans rejoice, and be thankful that the stars have finally aligned and gifted us with a Quarterback. Look, I can't remember when a Top 10 quarterback was drafted into the same system he played in for the previous 4 years.

The fact that he know this offense, and now just has to focus on what the defense is doing in order to get us in the right plays means that his learning curve is drastically reduce. I see the typical rookie struggles. In addition, 8 out of the last 10 first round Qb's drafted start day one. And it's safe to say none of them new their offense as well as Tannehill. So in reality, this more like Tannehill's 5th year in this system, so expect big things from him Day 1.

Here's my favorite post game comment after yesterday's game.

"We had a fast-tempo run play designed into our boundry and they had blitz called and if had he handed the ball off it would have been a minus play -- minus 3, minus 4 yards," Philbin said. "But he made a quick decision, no hesitation, saw it clearly, got the ball out and we got a seven or eight-yard gain. Those are the kind of things we like to see from a rookie quarterback."

Looks like a game management thread. Should get about 5 or 6 replies....

So what are you're thoughts on Tannehill after last nights game? I understand the franchise stuff is premature after one pre-season game but you seem to have serious doubts about his potential. Not trying to be a smart ass here, I respect you're opinion alot and just want to know whats on your mind...

To the contrary. It's not his potential that I have doubts about. His potential is why I think highly of him as a quarterback.

He looked good in his first pre-season game. The decisiveness was there which is what you want to see at this stage considering he knows the concepts and is familiar with the structure. He didn't double-clutch a single pass in 21 attempts.

He's not reading coverages yet. He's throwing to 'grass' and executing the passing concepts that he's familiar with. He's reading box defenders and the coaches want to see him get the offense into the right plays first and foremost beginning at the line of scrimmage. Game management.

All I'm saying is there's so much more to evaluate that it's impossible to draw "franchise" conclusions at this point. I doubt you'll hear Coach Philbin or Coach Sherman tossing that word around to each other. They know there's a long ways to go.

I'm interested in the development process and the manner in which quarterbacks are brought along. I don't expect everyone to see it that way. It's more fun to be a fan.

Dealing with pressure and being consistent week in and week out with all the various looks he's going to see is where it's at. Obviously we're quite a ways away from that right now.

I cant wait for the year when everybody doesn't overreacted after the first pre-season game. smdh. It's a groundhog day every year after the first Pre-season game. You shouldnt get all worked up until the 3rd pre-season game

This is your brain on drugs!

Just so we can have a thread for future reference. There's so much Dolphins hatred on this site, I decided we should compile a list. The list consist of, a member you know on this forum that

A) Thinks the Dolphins will finish no better than 6-10
B) Chad Henne sucks
C) Henne has zero chance of getting better this year
D) Our O-line is going to be horrendous
E)Jeff Ireland Sucks
F)Sparano Sucks
G)After one pre-season game, highlights only the negatives and thinks we are doomed.
H)Any other negative venom they use to convince us we should realize how bad of a team we have.

1.Dolph N.Fan
2.Yessir
3.WVdolphan
4.JCane
5??? Who else am I missing

Any questions?

What concerns me is how high he can go. How succesfull can a college based offensive scheme be in the NFL?

Same basic scheme, but with a much larger playbook. Sherman's system is an NFL system that he distilled down for a college team. Tannehill knows the basic structure of the offense, but has not mastered the entire playbook, I don't believe

I guess you think if you keep bringing this backup its going to somehow shut me up. Do your thang player. I don't lose sleep at night thinking you. And I think it's really sad that every time I say something you and a few others keep bringing this back up. It's cool, my life is wonderful, and I don't pretend to be a forum bully.

Of course the coaches aren't going to express that publicly, and it has nothing to do with what they think. They just don't want extra unneccesary pressure on him.

I'm quite sure they exposed what they thought when they invested the #8 overall pick on him....contrary to your feelings on the subject. As I remember you wanted the team to pass on him.

Its looking like you were dead wrong on the subject.

Incidently, the definition of a "Franchise Quarterback" is a subjective term......your definition may not be mine, and there is no set in granite definition so arguing over that term is pointless.

For the record, I believe a franchise quarterback to be someone you can build the foreseable future of franchise around.
Someone with a very high level of skill and accuracy, a playmaker who possesses poise, leadership and the ability perform in the clutch.

I have a high degree of belief that Ryan Tannehill will be exactly that.

You're correct that I would've taken Luke Kuechly instead. He's been the best player in Panthers camp so far. Not Cam Newton, not Steve Smith....

It looked like there was 3 of him on the field last night against the Texans in his first pre-season game. Looked to me like Miami could've used a linebacker like that judging by the performance the defense put up against Tampa.

I'm probably not dead wrong here either, BlueFin.
