Hoops mentioned his "progression" on passing plays. he asked what option as Simms in the "progression" when he was wide open.
If you Tannehill lovers were honest with yourselves you would realize there is no such thing as a "progression" with him!!!! Every single throw is pre determined!! That is why he never sees open receivers, he locks on one WR if not open stares until sack/fumble
But he has the ability to make some great throws, I think he is a good leader...Can he learn?? We will find out

Stars get bigger in the biggest moments they don't shrink...Tannehill has been better this year in the clutch.. KLast year he was the worst in the league at 4qc

the statement that he never comes off his first progression is complete mularkey...

if you think that's below average qb play you haven't seen below average qb play...the ignorance on this board is astounding

And now you're talking about the correlation between QB rating and winning, which is well supported.

What you have with QB rating IMO is a stable measure of a QB's ability (past the developmental period) that's very strongly associated with winning. Therefore we can use that measure alone to determine how well a quarterback is playing at any given time, and how likely his team is to win based on his performance.

Right now we're seeing below average QB play in terms of QB rating, and below average team performance in terms of team record, which is completely expectable based on the relationship between QB performance and winning. In other words, there is no evidence that the talent surrounding Ryan Tannehill is to blame for the team's performance.
Tom Brady: r:82.7 rec:7-2
Alex Smith: r:81.4 rec:9-0
Philip Rivers: r:105.9 rec:4-5
Matt Ryan: r: 91 rec:2-7

That perspective discounts the importance of quarterback play in the National Football League.

As strongly as quarterback play is related to winning in this league, you can't have a quarterback who is performing below average on just about every objective measure and call him "the least of your problems."

Until you have a quarterback who is performing at least above average, he is your biggest problem, because until you get that issue sorted out, you will very likely not be competitive in this league.

THIS!!! x10000000000

Why do people not get it. The rest of this team, outside of the OL, is pretty damn good. With good QB play, this team is 7-2 EASILY, perhaps better. 6-3 is the absolute worst this team is with good QB play. Seriously, you guys dont think we beat the BILLS AND BUCS with good QB play? Get real. 6-3 would make us a FIRM playoff contender right now. Not just firm, but actually legit in that we would have a chance to actually win once we got in.

And before anyone tells me we got good QB play Monday night, stop and realize Ryan Tannehill was 0-6 on passes beyond 15 yards. Thats a huge part of the problem with our offense and overall lack of ability to generate points. Tannehill left quite a few points out there on the field Monday night. No one is asking him to play the perfect game, but he did not play well. He played very very average at best. Keep in mind im saying GOOD QB play gets us a win. Its a fact. GOOD QB play has us 6-3 at a minimum, but more likely 7-2 or 8-1. This is a good football team being handicapped by below average QB play. Simple as that.

Pretty damn stellar at stopping the run....:rolleyes2:

Don't you think a very below average OL affect the QB play? You don't think having 2 rushing yards ALL GAME affects how the opposing D will play our offense? You give other people **** for changing their prediction but you seem to turn on a dime just as much, if not more than anyone on this site...

this is so nauseating...do you guys realize that in the 2 minute drill at the end of a half or on a final game tying or winning drive tannehill has yet not to score in that scenario unless the protection has done us in???

do you??? i bet you don't. cause your too busy propping your stance up with meaningless stats and overanalysis as a result of em..if you protect this qb he will torch you...if you let the freaking pocket collapse on him yeah he's not houdini i know the guy has overcome a 3rd or 4th even and like 30 this year in that scenario so people expect it every time but that stuff doesn't happen...

get a grip...sacks on final drives are like a given with this team when the opposition knows we have to pass...a given...if the protection holds up he goes right down the damn field...

How did Tannehill play vs. the Bengals when the running game was dominant the whole game? Not well. He basically had one good scoring drive for us. Granted, it was in the clutch when we need a FG to tie at the end of regulation, that was the only impressive drive of the game. The rest of the scoring was either directly from the defense, or set up nicely by the defense.

The defense carried us that game as it has most of the season. We do not win games by scoring tons of points. We have to get to the low to mid twenties and hope the defense brings its A game in order for us to win each week. All because our QB consistently plays below average.

And of course below average OL play can have a negative effect on QB play. There are plenty of occasions that it has for us this year.

the defense has not been carrying us...that's crazy talk...ha ha...what??? up 17 to 3 d gives up two straight tds to cinci on long drives...can't shut down the bills qb even...up 4 long td drive immediately after vs tampa

they aint carrying us ****

So the Tannebust guys, what is your solution? We will probably finish up with 6 or 7 wins and end up drafting somewhere around 10-12 and there are about 5 or 6 teams drafting ahead of us that need QBs.

Funny how you hold the defense to a standard of perfection like that.

So they gave up TWO scoring drives to Cinci. So what? Why is that so insurmountable? Not only did they HOLD Cinci to those 2 TD drives, they created points for our team directly via pick 6 and a safety. That goes without mentioning the turnovers that set up 10 other points on a platter for us.

Yet, if those of us who are rightfully critical of the QB play, if we suggest a measly TWO scoring drives is asking too much of the young man, the excuses flow and the strawmans about how we cant expect him to be Peyton fly.

GET REAL.

in the bengals game, 7 pts were directly tied to the grimes td, another 3 were added on the late int at end of half to get us a fg, and the safety. that is 12 pts from defense. now u can also say that lamar miller should have scored that td which would have given us more pts, but either way, defense was solid that game. i do agree with u though this defense is not a big time defense and it rarely comes up big in the clutch.

as for the bills game, 7 pts for the bills were tied to the tannehill pick 6 for the td, and tannehill also left pts on the board, specifically on that int in the end zone down 14-0.

he deff has shown glimpses of being very good, but he needs to do this on a consistent basis. we cant win by scoring in the high teens on a weekly basis, in the nfl these days, especially with the rules geared toward favoring offenses, we should be putting up mid 20s on a consistent basis.
