Becoming the #3 man won't be enough IMO. He's going to have to excel as a return man as well, which isn't far-fetched.

He is already inked in as the #1 punt returner I believe, releaving Clements of his duty and the added risk of injury.
 
you need the "all 22" film of every snap, not just highlights to make an accurate analysis of prospects. nevertheless i enjoyed the read.

No, all you need is a good eye, and you can analyize two seconds of video. He has it. ;)

yeah i guess you're right. thats why coaches log on to yahoo and watch these highlights for 2 seconds and don't bother with the all 22 film...

You don't need a telescope or special equipment to see the stars or recognize the constellations, but you do if you want to know everything there is to know about them.

To see something good, and be able to cast ones opinion is far less than what the coaches have to do! They need to know every single strength and every single weekness of all 22 players on the field. Nice try though.
 
I'm surprised I haven't seen a whole lot of people come out of the woodwork blasting me for saying that taking Matt Roth above Dan Cody was a mistake, provided that Cody isn't the next Dimitrius Underwood.

A healthy Dan Cody was one of the 10 best college players the last 2 years. Roth wasn't the college player that Cody was (although he was all-world on Iowa) but I believe the have about an equal chance of being great on the next level.

I know this, I think that the coaches have indeed made a sizable commitment to Jason Taylor. Dan Cody is a Taylor clone IMO. Getting Cody would ensure our ability to get rid of Taylor within 2-3 years. Roth, on the other hand, seems to fit best at the LDE spot opposite Taylor, not really a Taylor clone but a shorter guy with a lot of strength who can play the run and pass.

Dan Cody plays the run a little better than most think. I think he could player either side in the pros, although he may be better as a speed guy off RDE. Cody and Roth to me are clones. Both big fast guys, who can run and shed of some bigger blockers. I would love to see either lined up in a 3-4 coming of the NT. With that speed they could become a QB nightmares.

To me, watching them play, Cody is more Jason Taylor and Roth is more Trace Armstrong. They both have a wonderful first step, but Roth is more capable with the bullrush than Cody, and Cody is much faster in general so he can speed around the outside and create all sorts of problems by doing that (getting the LT to overcommit to the outside, then quick cut inside, or just beat him outside period).

Keep in mind that the year they worked together, Armstrong got more sacks than Taylor, and in only part-time duties too. I'm not saying that Roth can't get sacks. They just play different positions, LDE vs. RDE.
