Team Needs (Miami Dolphins from Bleacher Report)

Well I’m glad to see you have milroe up there where he’s gonna end up pick wise and not where the current hack mocks project him.

Tua gonna have to go down for the count for us to have a shot. But heck that guy keeps dropping his head for contact so it’s definitely possible.

All I know is Tua no longer should have no real competition in the building. He’s burned that bridge.

Thing is I’m always looking for some Josh Allen offset at qb and in this coming class Milroe is the closest thing I see and to date the only thing I see for it.
Fyi, there is a limit to the number if times you can say Milroe in one topic. I don't know what that limit is but you have likely surpassed it lol

Yes our rebuild failed. Last year was really our best chance to make a deep playoff run, unfortunately the season got derailed by injuries. If we were at full strength we would have won the division and at least won a playoff game and maybe even two. Its too bad we will never know what could have been.

With the state of the current roster it looks like we are in a reset. We have some high end talent but too many holes to really contend.

I am not convinced that Tua will get us where we want to go. He really hasn't looked all that impressive since we beat the Commanders last year and they might have had the worst defense in the league.

We also have too much expensive talent to just purge since the dead cap hits would be enormous. So we are in a position where we need to find bandaids to patch up the holes we have.

We restructured all these contract to give ourselves a 2 or 3 year window to make a run at a Super Bowl.

In a way we are now stuck with Tua and what we have around him for the next few years. I think a real GM would be better able to fill in the holes we have on our roster than Grier but for some reason Ross won't part with him.

The offseason priorities need to be

Improve the OL

Improve the DL

Upgrade backup QB

Some other issues will be finding a decent WR3, the safety position with Holland and Poyer likely both gone.
Agree. It's a tough position to be in. I was hoping that Tua would take his game to another level with the additions of Smith at tight end and OBJ at wide receiver. Could still happen.

We'll see how the remainder of the season goes. Can McDaniel find answers? The offense has been pathetic, averaging 12 points a game. That's the major issue.

Certainly not what I expected so far.

1) Dline: There is both age and injury issues within Miami's defensive line. Calais Campbell is pushing 40 yrs old. Ogbah has had past injury issues and is also over 30. The lack of a viable starting NT/DT is appearent and has hurt defending the run.

Miami needs a true number one NT, as well as another DE who can help set the edge, which has been a problem so far this year. Thankfully it's an extremely strong draft at the DT position. Miami would be wise to take advantage.

2) Edge: Miami is hurting at this position due to injury, and lack of experience. Both Chubb and Phillips are hurt and unable to contribute. Chubbs contract seems to be a viable cap casualty after this season. So he looks to be in his final year in Miami. No one knows when Phillips will return and if his 2nd recovery goes as well as his 1st? There is raw prospects behind both in Chop Robinson and Mo Kamara. Both are as green as grass. While Chop has shown some potential in his pass rush win rates, he's got a lot of work to do against the run.

Upgrading the Edge position may be priority number one in the offseason?

3) Oline: the OG positions are below average at both LG and RG. There is also no consistency at either spot.

A huge upgrade is needed at these two offensive line spots, moving forward. And potentially at RT, where Jackson seemingly has fallen off.

4) QB: A viable backup or #2 QB is sorely needed. Whether it comes from the draft or F/A signing is the biggest question facing the F/O this offseason.

5) WR: Finding a better option at WR #3 is imperative for this team. Injuries have decimated the position. And again finding one either in F/A or the draft is another question that needs to be answered.
Fair assessment

I wonder how patient Ross will be? He definitely seems like an owner that want to win. Maybe that's just my perception and it's just about the money.

But he did try to get Jim Harbaugh and Tom Brady.

If I'm Ross and the team continues averaging close to 12 points a game with a head coach who supposed to be an offensive genius, I'm blowing this thing up.
You and me both my dude. But we've seen how Ross handles things. He never blows it up fully. If history is an indicator, well my friend, we are in for more years of misery. Let's hope he's learned his lesson

If we are selecting in the middle of round 1 the top tier QB's will be gone, a good possibility could be.

R1. NT Deone Walker from Kentucky. He is the top rated NT and the 2nd rated DT overall only behind Mason Graham who will likely be a top 5 pick. He is more than just a run stopper he can also pressure the QB.

R2. QB Drew Allar from Penn State. We have to start developing a young QB

With our 2 3rd round compensatory picks.

OG Luke Kandra from Cincinnati

S Malachi Moore from Alabama

R4. DT Derrick Harmon from Oregon - Campbell will probably retire

R5. OG Connor Colby from Iowa

That’s a nice draft. I think Allar would be a great choice.

I just don't see Allar lasting until the second round. QBs almost always go higher than they should. I'm betting he is 16 at worst.

Ross has been right about a few things. Although he went about it the wrong way, had Miami landed Jim Harbaugh who knows what that might have meant to the franchise.

I believe Ross was open about wanting Lamar Jackson. That could have changed things dramatically.

He has tended to be overly patient, but maybe with his advancing age he reacts differently. 🤔

Few teams have needed a bye week as badly as the Miami Dolphins did this week. The 2024 season has quickly become a disaster. They are only 2-3, but it somehow feels worse than even the record would indicate.
Miami ranks near the bottom in nearly every offensive metric and can use the week off to get healthier, recuperate and figure out a plan for the offense. If they can do that, they might be able to eke out enough wins to be relevant if and when Tua Tagovailoa comes back this season.

Biggest Weaknesses:
  1. Quarterback
  2. Interior Offensive Line
  3. Interior Defensive Line
  4. Wide Receiver Depth
  5. Tight End

Add Now: EDGE Shaq Lawson
Tua Tagoaviloa's injury isn't the only thing that has derailed the Dolphins' season. They're also dealing with a rash of injuries on the edge that includes Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb. Phillips was lost for the season to a torn ACL in Week 4 and Bradley Chubb is still on the PUP list.
The Dolphins really shouldn't be giving up draft capital to compete this season. The injuries have given them a difficult road to hoe, but signing a veteran free agent who could help them put themselves in a position to complete.

2025 Free Agency: LB Jamien Sherwood, New York Jets
Anthony Walker Jr. and David Long Jr. are both set to be free agents this offseason. Long should potentially be brought back because he is playing well, but the Dolphins could bring in a younger third linebacker than Walker.
Jamien Sherwood is doing good things with the Jets. The emerging linebacker will be 25 years old when he hits the market next season. If the Jets aren't interested in giving him a market contract, then the Dolphins should be looking to sign him away from their division rival.

2025 NFL Draft: OT Will Campbell, LSU
The only silver lining in the disappointing start to the Dolphins season is that it might wind up giving the Dolphins a top-10 pick. When healthy, this roster is not a bottom-10 group, but the reality is they might be too deep into the injured reserve to turn things around.
If that's the case, the Dolphins would need to strongly consider drafting an offensive tackle who can bolster the offensive line. Protecting Tagovailoa is going to be a priority moving forward and Campbell is one of the best offensive linemen in the draft class.
(Previous Week's Selections: QB Russell Wilson (trade), IOL Will Fries, S Lathan Ransom)
We can only pray our #1 pick this year is an OLineman. A "ready to start" OLineman, not a project, not a guy on rehab, etc. If they can just lock Grier out of the Scouting War-room during the 1st pick we might be alright!

Agree. Unless it's a tackle who can also excel at guard. I'd be fine with that.

So much in the air right now for Miami, starting with Tua.

Also, I like concepts of McDaniel's run game but it's time to take it to another level where the Dolphins can have success in the run game against the more physical teams in the NFL. Specifically, the teams Miami has to beat to get to the super bowl...Kansas City, Baltimore and Buffalo.
Buffalo needs to be at the front of that list. Until we can get by them (1-12) over the last forever, we don't have to worry about those other teams.

We definitely need an OL but I think problem #1 is the “we’re only one player away” mentality this organization has had for decades. The reality is we’re not one player away. We’re so many players away. We need a new GM who can draft better and start building a good team so when we do finally find our long term answer at QB, they can be successful.

Agree. First, we're speculating for fun. Miami should draft ~16th at worst. Given that, there will be no must have QB available and, if there were, Miami would more likely trade down for more draft picks. QBs have value in trades.
Good point. The QB in the next draft speculation is really a ? at this point. If Tua stays upright the rest of the year, we don't go QB 1st rd. If Tua goes out again for more than 1 game, I think we have to look hard at QB, or pick up a good veteran FA. I still believe next year we really should draft OLine 1st - 7th rds, that together with any FA Olinemen we have signed, maybe we field a competitive OLine squad to start next season. At that point we could bring in a geriatric like Flacco to win games.

I agree. Maybe we can permanently lock Grier out of any rooms @ Davie! That would help moving forward!
