Team Needs (Miami Dolphins from Bleacher Report)

Michael Penix got a 4yr/22.8 million and he was picked at 8th after Cousins got a 4yr/180 million for what it's worth.

Exactly. A rookie top pick qb and tua on the books is workable. What isn’t is a high priced vet paired with tua.

Miami needs to go the rookie plan b route. Of course the more you win the harder it gets to get said rookie

I agree, along with a new GM and Head Coach I've seen enough even if we do find a way to make the playoffs, I've seen enough.

With our salary cap mess, drafting a QB makes the most sense. If not in round 1 then definitely in round 2. Thats the best way for us to have a decent backup QB on the cheap.

Absolutely have to IMO.
QB is an absolute must, but problem is I'm not sold on any of these college QB's. All have bust written all over them. The 2025 QB free agent class isn't promising either. Fins are in between a rock and a hard place. I don't know what other choice they have but to run it back with the Fragile One and try to find a better back up. If they go that route, Center would be my top pick. Does anyone have any info on the monster 6"5 330 lb Center Bryce Foster from Kansas? Need to build the interior. Center would be a great place to start!

The only way we are going to get Manning is if we tank in 2025 and we secure the number 1 draft pick.

Unfortunately I don't think we will tank in 2025 so Manning is not going to happen.

Our long term QB situation is really a conundrum now that we gave Tua a long term contract and he suffered another concussion.

It doesn't look like Tua is going to retire so we have to either get a real backup QB or draft a QB who can legitimately play at a high level.

Whatever we do I just hope Grier is not the one making the decisions.
It's looking like Miami's rebuild failed. Have to place blame on Grier, McDaniel and some unfortunate injures.

There's talent, but the Dolphins are clearly well behind the top tier teams in the AFC. Even when healthy.

So, the Tua question has several layers. Can the Dolphins win with him is still the biggest one. I'd say so, but Miami would have to have a complete team around him. The Giants won with Jeff Hostetler and Phil Sims. Tua's in that category. Better than Hostetler, close to Sims.

Will he be durable enough? Probably not. How hard would it be to upgrade? There's the big one.

I watched the end of the Bills versus Jets game and Allen's run sealed the win for Buffalo. Mahomes fourth and one run in overtime gave the Chiefs a chance to win the super bowl. Which they ended up doing. Lamar Jackson is always a short yardage threat for Baltimore.

That's what I'd be looking for. Not sure Miami contends over the next few years, so maybe it's another rebuild anyway.

I generally agree with this. But I think there are some exceptions.

If Ross replaces Grier and/or McDaniel, that could open the door to a different philosophy at quarterback. I don't think that's likely, but it's probably not off the table either.

Plus, I think Miami is in a unique situation. Tua has had a three concussions. He's talked openly about retirement before.

If the Dolphins pick high enough and there's a quarterback who the team views as a franchise type, why not pull the trigger?
Because if Grier is still picking, he will not pick a sufficient O linemen to and /or build a solid line for new said QB to thrive behind... its not that hard bud

Jalen milroe. True duel threat athlete sub 4.5 speed can make you miss and most importantly in addition to having a pro arm he can TAKE CONTACT.

He’s a better prospect than Jalen hurts was coming out. But in a similar take contact package. Better top end speed more twitchy.

Negatives- probably won’t be there after about pick 5 come the actual nfl draft. Floor is probably the 10 pick. Might even go #1 overall

I wonder how patient Ross will be? He definitely seems like an owner that want to win. Maybe that's just my perception and it's just about the money.

But he did try to get Jim Harbaugh and Tom Brady.

If I'm Ross and the team continues averaging close to 12 points a game with a head coach who supposed to be an offensive genius, I'm blowing this thing up.

I don't think we have a chance to touch him unless Tua gets hurt again. And if there is a qb needy team in the top 3 Milroe will be gone. We'd have to finish worse then the Browns, Panthers, Titans, as well as probably the Raiders, Jets, Rams, Giants, Saints, Cardinals, and even Seattle.

Well I’m glad to see you have milroe up there where he’s gonna end up pick wise and not where the current hack mocks project him.

Tua gonna have to go down for the count for us to have a shot. But heck that guy keeps dropping his head for contact so it’s definitely possible.

All I know is Tua no longer should have no real competition in the building. He’s burned that bridge.

Thing is I’m always looking for some Josh Allen offset at qb and in this coming class Milroe is the closest thing I see and to date the only thing I see for it.

I dont know how you move forward and try to win and compete with this roster.

In addition to the OPs team needs of Qb, interior O line D line and Wr depth, they also need DE, OLB, ILB, SS and FS.

They have 38 players under contract, with about 5 million to spend for 51 players next year.

They a stuck between a rock and a hard place in order to free up money next year.

The 2 players most are saying they should post June cut are Armstead and Chubb, with a savings of 34 million. If the Dolphins designate both June 1 cuts, they wont be able to use that money until June. If they cut them at the beginning of the year, they both have a ton of dead cap (45 mil) and they save only 5 million, which they can use at the start of the 2025 season. These are also the 2 players (Chubb 13 million & Armstead 9 million) along with Tua (19 million), who’s contracts can be restructured, allowing more money to be kicked down the road. I think it would be beyond foolish to restructure any of the 3 players, as they all have injury risks moving forward. They could restructure Hill, Ramsey, Jackson, Sieler and Brooks, creating about 27 million in cap space for 2025 but kicking more dead cap out to future years.

I just don't see with all their needs and very little cap space, this 2025 team will be able to compete for a division title or make a deep run in the playoffs. I think they should just blow it all up and start over with another rebuild.

Yes our rebuild failed. Last year was really our best chance to make a deep playoff run, unfortunately the season got derailed by injuries. If we were at full strength we would have won the division and at least won a playoff game and maybe even two. Its too bad we will never know what could have been.

With the state of the current roster it looks like we are in a reset. We have some high end talent but too many holes to really contend.

I am not convinced that Tua will get us where we want to go. He really hasn't looked all that impressive since we beat the Commanders last year and they might have had the worst defense in the league.

We also have too much expensive talent to just purge since the dead cap hits would be enormous. So we are in a position where we need to find bandaids to patch up the holes we have.

We restructured all these contract to give ourselves a 2 or 3 year window to make a run at a Super Bowl.

In a way we are now stuck with Tua and what we have around him for the next few years. I think a real GM would be better able to fill in the holes we have on our roster than Grier but for some reason Ross won't part with him.

The offseason priorities need to be

Improve the OL

Improve the DL

Upgrade backup QB

Some other issues will be finding a decent WR3, the safety position with Holland and Poyer likely both gone.
