Team Needs (Miami Dolphins from Bleacher Report)

Based on current Dolphins philosophy, I’d say needs are OT, Edge, and opportunity pick is dual threat TE.

Armstead and Lamm have both hinted at retirement, so we’ll be down two OTs.

Phillips & Chubb are no longer elite pieces to build around after their injuries. They’re rotational pieces in 2025 and probably not even with team beyond that. Need another young edge to pair with Chop while old men like Ogbah hold down the fort.

TE is an opportunity pick in early rounds if there’s a potential elite one available to give Tua a safety valve.

I think I’m the opposite, will depend on how the board looks
So much up in the air. If McDaniel and Grier are still here, which I think is the most likely scenario, there are a few things we know.

Grier loves corners. Not a bad thing. McDaniel loves speed and playmakers on offense.

The defensive line could be a huge concern with another injury to Phillips and both Campbell and Ogbah short-term answers.

The offensive line is always at least a player or two away.

If the team continues to play at the level it has to start the season and Ross makes big changes, then I think quarterback could be at the top of the list.

1) Dline: There is both age and injury issues within Miami's defensive line. Calais Campbell is pushing 40 yrs old. Ogbah has had past injury issues and is also over 30. The lack of a viable starting NT/DT is appearent and has hurt defending the run.

Miami needs a true number one NT, as well as another DE who can help set the edge, which has been a problem so far this year. Thankfully it's an extremely strong draft at the DT position. Miami would be wise to take advantage.

2) Edge: Miami is hurting at this position due to injury, and lack of experience. Both Chubb and Phillips are hurt and unable to contribute. Chubbs contract seems to be a viable cap casualty after this season. So he looks to be in his final year in Miami. No one knows when Phillips will return and if his 2nd recovery goes as well as his 1st? There is raw prospects behind both in Chop Robinson and Mo Kamara. Both are as green as grass. While Chop has shown some potential in his pass rush win rates, he's got a lot of work to do against the run.

Upgrading the Edge position may be priority number one in the offseason?

3) Oline: the OG positions are below average at both LG and RG. There is also no consistency at either spot.

A huge upgrade is needed at these two offensive line spots, moving forward. And potentially at RT, where Jackson seemingly has fallen off.

4) QB: A viable backup or #2 QB is sorely needed. Whether it comes from the draft or F/A signing is the biggest question facing the F/O this offseason.

5) WR: Finding a better option at WR #3 is imperative for this team. Injuries have decimated the position. And again finding one either in F/A or the draft is another question that needs to be answered.

I know you do. I just feel that drafting defense would just be continuing Grier's mentality, doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

It isnt just the Chop pick though, we have been doing this since Charles Harris. (Or hell, even Dion Jordan, if Grier had any say in that pick)

We have been trying to force edge rushers (Hell, even corners) into our system at the expense of quality starters elsewhere.

They need to first, realize that the offense is a problem, and second, actually address that problem head on. No more of this half assed approach we have been seeing.

Fix the O, and then fix the D.

I used to be on board with getting the best value for the pick, now I just want the damn thing fixed.
I absolutely believe in selecting good players at positions of needs.

As long as you know the player won’t bust, your home grown players start to accumulate over time..

So while you played it a bit safe you also hit on more picks because of that

This is crazy talk.

If Miami wins vs the colts they would be a playoff spot with their qb returning.

Let’s wait a few weeks before they go off the deep end….
Won’t win and won’t beat any average to good team even with Tua. This offense is putrid, has been that bad since last year whenever playing a good defense.

Drafting another OT after we invested a second rounder on Paul ? That'd be a mistake or that would be accepting getting Paul was a mistake.
Austin Jackson isn’t playing that well and I think the fins could move in easy next season. So I wouldn’t be so quick to poo poo this. A developmental qb would have to be strongly considered as well depending upon who was available.

I think fans are underestimating the needs on the defensive line for the reasons you highlighted.

Since that's also the strong suit in the draft, makes sense for Miami to invest in pass rusher and defensive tackle/NT early.

I mean they just traded a conditional 3rd for Adams lmao…he also hired Drew to represent him so who knows
Well I am not sure but does Drew only do deals for us?

Reddick wants money over a ring (not that he was getting that in NY) so send him to Pittsburgh or the Jags.

I think if we continue down that road we are going to build a team like the Raiders.

Let's build a team like the Chiefs.

Chiefs and Ravens are probably the teams I'd most like to mimic. Both also have really good defenses to go along with dynamic offenses.

Hard to have that complete team, but both really do.

Mahomes and Jackson are obviously two of the best. They might be 1-2, although Jackson has to prove himself in the postseason.

I do think Miami currently has more issues on offense than defense. Tough to win with the interior offensive linemen the Dolphins have.

But if the team loses Campbell, Ogbah and if Phillips isn't the same player, that's a lot of needs suddenly on defense.

Maybe free agency is about offensive line and draft defense early 🤔

Not sure you want to spend on the oline. Its better to get them cheap in the draft.

I'd rather pay a proven DE than draft another project.

Let's see how AJ ends up playing and if he plays bad how easily is to get rid of his contract without a huge salary cap hit.
But drafting another tackle after getting Paul and with AJ extension. Plus we also have Armstrad's contract to deal with in case he doesnt want to retire.
We have issues at Tackle but we have bigger issues at Guard and DT and Safety if Holland leaves.
