Teammates Bullied Martin

According to the reports, teammates were all sitting down eating. Martin went over to go sit with them. As soon as he sat down, everyone got up and left. Then Martin stormed out.

We have become such a soft society. This bullying term has gone too far and is used way too often. Channing Crowder was on WQAM during the pregame show talking about locker room culture. That's how it is man. Guys make fun of each other and pull pranks too. Not just football either. Friends do that amongst each other all the time. Unless it turns out that this dude has bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or something like that then he's just soft. Period.

Legitimate mental illness of a chronic nature would be the only thing that would make me back off my opinion.
But in that case; Why is a son of Harvard educated lawyers, Stanford graduate, etc not undergoing treatment/
on meds for his condition?

Look at me look at me. HEY EVERYBODY LOOK AT ME. That is all that ever comes out of your mouth. In my prison...In my line of work...When I was in the army...When I was a security guard for some important people...Incidental action...My guys...blah blah blah. Ok you are the toughest guy on the planet and as cool as John Wayne. But you are no psychologist and the last person on earth given that should be giving perspective on bullying. Because you yourself are one.

Regards, Erik

Sure, Martin can be a coward and crawl into the corner. Or...

I'm usually a benefit of the doubt guy but I'm gonna shoot first and ask questions later on this one. I'm so tired of the obsession with labeling everything as bullying so I'm jaded. I'll just apologize later if he's just seriously screwed up in the head. You know why? Because most times that's not the case.

That's another thing raising my suspicion that this "bullying" crap is bs.

Are you 100% sure the o line played better or did Sherman actually stick with the run in this game? Glad to see Miller finally brake the century mark
I think if you watched the game you'd agree.

I tend to agree.

The O Line guys probably saw him as soft, and weren't going to stop until
he did somthing about it. Every day that went on that he DIDN'T do
something about it only emboldened them.

Now, that he's run away, every player that was privy to that exchange is going
to carry the story of how soft he is to other teams, and those players
are going to listen. Hes pretty ****ed I think because no matter what
else he does in his career, he's still going to be considered soft.

Now, that may not be what happened, but if I was to hypothesize
that would be it.

A few things: Why did Martin not act like a man? Well gee, I thought everyone believed in equality these days? Why cant men be soft and girlie? Lol. Or is it double standards where women can act all manly but men have to strictly be manly men or die? Lame.

2. Why didn't a Stanford grad, son of Harvard lawyers man up? Well are we saying that Harvard and Stanford makes you smart? Its a name of a school, and most certainly doesn't make you smart. I dropped out of college after 2 years and do much better than my friends with Masters degrees. Plus, college turns people into obedient, compliant sheep anyway.

3. Is GoonBoss suggesting there is a valid reason? Clearly anyone who knows the almighty beastly average redneck Americans knows that....yes, theyd think theres such a valid reason? Lets not forget, America's a bad a$$ nation with bad a$$ people who love violence and being all bad a$$...and then wonder why we are the laughing stock of the world. The most free, prosperous nation on Earth, YET the highest homicide, suicide, incarceration, even divorce, obesity, medicated developed country on Earth (strange, huh?) We are supposed to be UNITED, right?

I feel for Martin, bullying is a terrible thing. I lost a friend in high school because of it, and after my friend hung himself everyone ran around crying wishing they were nicer to him. See, everyone on this forum is acting all bad a$$ (which Americans tend to do, even though America hasn't won a war in over a century) but if breaking news hits tomorrow that Martin commits suicide, everyone is going to be saying "my thoughts and prayers to the family...I regret the mean things I said". Sad how people don't realize the consequences of their words and actions until something bad happens.

If they really were bullying him and making fun of him I disagree with that 100%. You just should not treat another person like that. Joe Philbin should make sure that doesn't happen. Why should grown men act like children? Just like school yard children. Who's to say he could have taken all he could take, and then brought a gun and who knows what would have happened.

Wow.

Here's what I don't get: Why are people drawing comparisons to everyday situations? This is not happening in a grade school, and Jonathan Martin did not choose to play competetive parcheesi for a living.

He chose to play football.

This is a sport in which people do things to each other, on every single play, that you and I would be locked up for. While I do not understand the team dynamic, there may have been a very good reason the incident happened. I can understand the "pick your teammates up when they fall" mentality, but again, we have no idea to what scope that had been tried.

Eventually, one decides for themself what sort of man they are.

Guys bust each other's balls. That's what we do. Did they go to far? Maybe they did but let's not call every instance of guys ribbing and pranking each other, bullying. Do they all consider themselves friends? If they do, than that stuff is pretty normal. If there was animosity behind it than that's another story

If Martin thought he was bullied at the facility, he should have heard the **** I was saying about him and his line mates while I sat here in my man room.

You don't know how the one being bullied is taking it. You are taking chances when you bully someone else these days. Besides why would one bully a fellow teammate anyway? They are all supposed to be pulling in the same direction, not singling out one to continually pick on, making him feel different than the rest. Remember the article said they have been doing it since he came to the Dolphins.

Richie Incognito may be behaving better on the field with regard to penalties, but I suspect he's still a sadistic dick and is probably primarily responsible here.

I suspect you're right after seeing an insight into Richie on the most recent film and also Hard Knocks last years.

Regardless, this is the big time and more importantly life, not some pre-school where everyone holds your hand. If he hasn't grown up by now, then I fear for him Martin in the future where I suspect he's lived a sheltered life in the past.

Its not as if he's some skinny, short kid living in a poverty deprived developing country - he should be able to stand up for himself and as our friend Rocky says "the world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it."

I'm not one to harp on the media for treating the Fins unfairly, but find me one time Alex Marvez said something positive about the Fins.

As for Martin, if the issue is bullying I'll point out that Michael Egnew was given so much more **** as a rookie. From Sherman telling him if it was up to him he'd cut him, to Incognito hacking his facebook and calling him a ****ing moron, to what the fans and beat writers said to him. For as little as Egnew has provided the passing game, you have got to give the kid credit; he worked his ass off to become a good blocker and has been rewarded.

I don't think it's as simple as he got bullied by teammates.
