Teams don't respect our Passing game

This is why I hope Boston regains his form and we can start using him in 3 WR sets with Booker and Chambers. Go head and stack 8 in the box -- I'll hit Boston on a slant and let him run over the safety. Or we hit Chambers on a fly route down the sideline. In other words, compensate for the lack of a passing game by emphasizing the RECEIVERS' skills.

"Saban said part of the problem with the blocking for the running game was the high use of eight-man fronts and blitzes by Chicago. The tactics by the Bears were somewhat odd for an exhibition game, but not something that couldn't have been handled with some normal preparation typical of the regular season"

This is exactly like last year where they dared us to throw the ball...If you have eight man up front, there is no respect at all from our passing game even though we got Chambers and Booker running good routes. The Bears started the preseason the same way the Ravens ended their season against us.
I'm worried because as i see it teams respect our WRs, but they don't respect our QBs. And there's no reason to respect us, lets face it Feeley has some of the same problem that Bledsoe, movility. Frerotte will be our starter if Feeley don't develop some ability to escape from sacks and blitzes. And Gus is getting old so that means that Feeley will fly away by 2006 and a new guy will come to solve this, our biggest worries will be who's going to be that "new guy".

why not blitz a QB who can not make accurate passes under pressure? but during the bears game, i think your WRs droped to many passes too.

a team will stop blitzing when the QB makes them pay for blitzing.
its best if this is set up early in the game. no sence in waiting till the 4th quarter to throw in a screen play when your QB has been sacked 7 times and your loosing by 23. (damn you bledsoe!!!!!!! :fire: )

all I know is that not every team will play us the way Chi. did. but I really liked what our passing game is and what it could become.

in addition to the oline, if we can pass like that consistantly, it will most certainly open up our running game. The one part of the running game that should benefit greatly is the YPC. It's been a long time since we averaged much over 4 YPC.

The other thing that I was very excited about was the fact that we ran a lot of 2TE, 2 WR, and 1RB schemes.....it's always been my favorite formation (I guess that's from watching those old school Joe Gibbs offenses that racked up the yardage) :)

The nice thing about it is that a RB with good vision is perfect for it as it should allow lots of cut back lanes. I was excited about Scott Linehan when he was hired....I'm even more so now, even after 1 preseason game.

Now...lets see how his playcalling goes during the regular season and see if he can make adjustments at halftime if we're struggling...something we haven't seen since Shula was here!

This will be true until we can prove we can beat a team with the passing game. We will this year, and it will enable us to become a much more balanced football team. It won't take long for teams to start respecting our passing game.

i agree with you. the passing game will be able to beat people this year. i was surprised with how far along it looked in the first game. the blocking will be key, as justa said, but i think the passing game will be worlds better than last year in just a few games. (of course, that won't take much).

Ok, three things.

1. I don't respect our passing game either

2. If your defense can dictate the game by blitzing, then you do it. Simple logic.

3. We did not have a game plan in place. Meaning that the regular season tactics and playbook were not being used. Just your average backyard pickup game type plays and coverages. I'm sure our DB's, etc. will have a different style of play once the season kicksin.

Teams will blitz you till you burn them with the pass. Then they will soften up. Just make some plays.

I'm glad the Bears chose to "show their hand" a little bit by using all those blitzes and 8 man fronts. It was good PRACTICE for us.

Saban also said in the article that they were not expecting the Bears to blitz as much as they did. Consequently it took some time to adjust. He said that that was the main reason why they didn't start moving the ball through the air consistently until the 2nd quarter, which was at the same time that Frerotte entered the game. Therefore, if the QBs were reversed, it would have been Feeley who would have benefitted from Linehan's adjustments. As it was, Feeley hung in there and made some good throws, one of which was dropped. So it really comes down to the fact that the Bears surprised us and we were not to able to adjust until later and Frerotte was the beneficiary. Even Sage and Brock benefitted. Remember, not only were we surprised at the start by their defense, but the Bears on their first team have alot of playmakers like Alex Brown, Ogun, Urlacher, Mike Brown, etc. and Feeley was running plays like they were going to be in a base 1st preseason game Defense, but instead they attacked the line without letup. Feeley did decent in that situation and here is the good news.......HE DID NOT THROW A PICK!! Last year, he would have thrown an interception while trying to avoid a rush like that!

Agreed. We saw glimpses of it on Monday. He looked good enough to make the team against Chicago. With a few more weeks to get his legs back, he could really be a weapon. He needs to play over Thompson. That guy scares no one. Except maybe us.

If I were playing Miami right now, I would do the opposite...I'd play off, cover 2, let the QB's throw picks at me, and be pretty confident that our offensive line can't block their way out of a paper bag in the running game.
