Tua time!
If he's cut he'll go through waivers, first off.
Otherwise, I think you're overestimating the value of that guaranteed contract. Six million isn't all that much, spread out as it is over several years. The Dolphins have carried Philip Merling's fairly equivalent contract for years and it hasn't gotten in the way doing anything. Besides, if you switch his position, you might convince him to restructure, especially after the first year.
The key, for me, is getting him to buy in. That's why I would have to make it clear to him (before the trade) that he would never, ever be a quarterback for me. And he would have to buy in. For all the fawning everyone does over Tebow's impeccable character I'm not sure he does the switch with any enthusiasm (especially at first), or really buys into the fact that his career as a quarterback is completely and totally over. I have some big reservations about that.
But I think he has the physical talent to be a natural conversion prospect, and that's worth something. And as for him getting turned into "scrambled eggs", I just disagree. He's no more likely to get turned into scrambled eggs than any other powerful runner, and he already showed the toughness to keep getting up playing in the SEC. It's not like being a quarterback where it's hard to play if your right arm hurts or you have some cobwebs upstairs. A FB or TE plays with that sort of stuff all the time. I would think the last thing you would have to worry about with Tebow is his toughness or physicality.
so put a value on it...off of what you know what round value would you put on his physical talent??? i would say as a conversion prospect best case you're talking 5th round here...best case...so why would i when you admittedly say he;s not an nfl qb prospect give a late round pick value guy $6.3 mil guaranteed in trade??? his value doesn't justify it...5th round picks are playing for probably somewhere in the $400-500 k range with little guarantees...you're gonna guarantee 10-12 times that???
