Tempo is most important tonight....

Woah... I hope that is a load of sarcasm I hear. The Jets are by far a "Sure thing", I can't wait to sneak up on a few teams this year...

Obviously he was being sarcastic, as we know the Jets stink and the dolphins are going to the SB this year.

Tempo is a good overall theme to watch for but for me I'm very interested in seeing how everyone tackles on defense and ST.

Since Saban says he doesn't believe in tackling during the TC but likes to us tackle dummies so that the players work on technique\positioning and not get hurt, I think that the actual wrap up tackling might suffer. Although I have no proof that it will effect it one bit.

Of course I'll also watch the schemes and basic formations that the big O uses also. But that's what's most interesting for me this evening. How many missed tackles do we have, espcially since it's such a basic skill.

I see what you're saying in that the Fins have an extra preseason game. But the fact is, this team needs to develop some constructive gameday habits. I see no reason why that can't start tonight -- making it more than just an exercise in keeping healthy.

I agree but I'd be shocked if he keeps the projected starters in very long, he'll introduce them to what he wanst to do and he'll expect the backups to do it as well but it would be dumb to leave the regulars out there more than a series or 2. It's just too risky.

I'm not saying he'll leave the regulars in. I'm just saying there's more to this game than just getting out healthy.

I would love to see the dolphins get back to being one of the least penalized teams in the NFL. We have really declined in that area the past few years. Tempo will be important as well at attitude. We need to hope the young players are hungry and show they want to go for the whole 60 minutes.

Shula used to rule that stat.

I remember that coaches and comentators would make coments about how may years in row Shula's teams were the least penalized in the league. Some of them even saying that it was because Shula was on the rules commitee so he had an inside track on "buddying up" with the refs.....that was always funny...they were soooo jealous.

It's most important to get out healthy, he'll plant seeds of what he wants to do during the year and he'll expect his guys to get better each week this preseason but tonight is only a brief start. The next few weeks will be much more important for him to implement what he wants to see on game day.

When you have 5 preseason games the projected starters will nly play a series or 2. You will not learn much from preseason game 1 of 5. No our SB bound Jets do not have much to work on except getting into game shape. m Our roster is set and our starters are set just about everywhere except SS. You will never learn alot from preseason games, you can whip your opponeent every game and it's still meaningless, the only thing that matters is coming out healthy.

I have to disagree somewhat. Although I am not a huge fan of preseason, it does serve a purpose (other than charging us full price for half price play). It is a necessary evil. There are always guys that need to see if they fit or don't fit. There are always roster spot battles and practice team players. I would rather iron out those decisions, and some playcalling and cohesiveness in meaningless games instead of regular season or against my own team. There are always suprises and very often you can pluck someone other teasm don't want (ie Wes Welker). Injuries can happen, but we lost more than one player in practice (we're talking about practice). The regular season as it is, does not begin to flow or take form until 4-5games into it.
