Pryor will get to play in the NFL this year, after all. The NFL announced this morning that Pryor, the disgraced Ohio State quarterback whose dealings with boosters led to his program receiving major sanctions, will be eligible for the Supplemental Draft after all.
There is a caveat — Pryor will be suspended for the first five weeks of the NFL season, just like he would have been had he returned to Ohio State for his senior season. Pryor will not be allowed to practice or play for the first five weeks of the regular season, but otherwise Pryor won his battle to enter the NFL this year instead of having to wait for next April’s draft.
Just don’t expect him to wear aqua and orange.
It should be obvious at this point that the Dolphins have decided to sink or swim with Chad Henne this year.
But Dolphins fans no doubt will get starry-eyed about Pryor, who stands 6-foot-6, 230 pounds and threw 27 touchdowns against 11 interceptions in 2010, while also adding 631 rushing yards. Why not grab Pryor, the argument goes, stash him on the bench this year and hope he turns into a good quarterback in the future, like the Packers did with Aaron Rodgers and the Pats are trying with Ryan Mallett?
Sorry, but it isn’t happening.
