Texans are "seriously considering" letting Mario Williams walk

Whoever gets Mario Williams will have to severely overpay for him. That doesnt seem like something we would do. Also, they guy isn't known for his hard work or dicipline, and doesnt seem like a Jeff Ireland type of player.

I dont think the Texans let Mario Williams go anyway.

I didn't realize that about Pectorial injuries

dqwell jackson tore his 2 times and missed 2 years because of it and he's finally 3 years later back to his old form...its risky just like a lot of other things but with as much hand fighting and extending of their arms basically bench presses as dlineman/lbs etc do its a slippery slope

I'm pretty sure that Merling is under contract thru next year and Langford is not... I could be wrong tho

Merling is a RFA. IMO he should walk, but they could give him a low tender and try to trade him. I think it would have to be a trade because if some team makes an offer I think they have to pony up his original draft value, a 2nd rounder.

I doubt it happens. If Miami is going to make a run at Peyton Manning then they're going to get caught holding that money aside for Manning, waiting on him to mkae a decision too long to end up getting back in the running for other high priced guys like Mario Williams and Matt Flynn.

It's all very typical Jeff Ireland and reminds me why even though I'm very high on the Philbin hire, the Dolphins still likely will not be a team that competes at the highest levels until Jeff Ireland is ousted.

I have to think that IF we let Solai walk - at 12.4+M coming off the books you could do alot. That is two studs with a 1st yr friendly contract. Flynn and Williams could be had around that total IMO. Let's see - a play when i feel like it 2 down slug or a monster pass rush and a potential franchise QB? Tough Call!

Also, i do think Odrick could play DE in a 4-3. Guy can set the edge as well as provide some push. He was getting some good pressure the last few games. Come on - Pee Wee Herman would be dancing all over the field

Lol ... it was funny how every media pundit, journalist, talking head and so-called expert crucified Charlie and Texans for picking Mario Williams ahead of Reggie Bush and Vince Young. It was brutal the criticism they took for that pick.

If the Texans let Mario Williams go then it means he is to injured to be effective....teams don't just let top defensive players walk out the door for no reason. Fans and sometimes, unfortunately front offices, get to enamored with what a player WAS and not what he now IS.

Starting point for a Mario Williams deal if he is let go will be some huge numbers.

The numbers would be close to the deal Julius Peppers got a few years back:

6 years $91.5 million with $42 million of that guaranteed.

I don't think we have the cap space to sign him.We would have to cut several players and restructure others and then forgo resigning some of our FAs (Soliai, Langford, and either Wake or Jake (or both) for 2013) just to get Williams. That's a lot to give up just to sign one player.

I think he'll want way too much for us to afford along with other things, but God that'd be a great combo

If we get Flynn, I'd pass on Mario Williams so that we can draft Courtney Upshaw to replace JT. The dude is a beast and we need a pass rusher.

Too much hassle to get this guy. I mean if we are keeping Wake we have to pay him this off season and paying another OLB big money will only make that harder. Hell if we get a great trade for Wake would love to get WIlliams

The past 3 seasons he's had one type of injury or another which has caused him to miss games and limited his effectiveness. If you guys want a pass rusher you'd be better off going after Avril.

So a made up hypothetical is very typical of Jeff Ireland and reminds you why you don't like Jeff Ireland? You realize how irrational this is, right?
