You're right. If we make the playoffs, Ireland could have stayed. Ross must have some kind of phenomenal faith in Philbin though, to keep him. I wonder what's happening now...is the new GM going to run the show, or is Ross going to tell him he has to work with Philbin? Because I see a problem, there. Pick a guy and give him the power. Either Philbin becomes that new boss, or a heavyweight GM comes in an re-evaluates everybody and everything and hires/fires who he wants.

To quote an old saying for those that don't understand the big picture of why I said I AM HAPPY WE MISSED THE PLAYOFFS!! lol "Sometimes you have to cut off your hand to save your body" & missing the playoffs was the hand we had to cut off. Yeah it sucks cutting off your hand but we will live on for years to come now!!
I don't get this mentality at all....you root for you team to have a chance to win - if they made the playoffs they would have been in the tourney and who knows what would happen....I don't get the this makes us better in the future idea - when all you can control is today - I will never root for the Fish to lose.....

Technically they would have had a chance, but in reality they would have likely been bounced in the first or second round. They got what they deserved.
