The 2006 Boston Red Sox Thread

If you're going to post in this thread, at least try to add something insightful.

Your lame one-liners are old and ineffective (like the Yankees, ).

There's nothing insightful about the Red Sox

manram needs to man up!

For not wanting to play in the All-Star game to rest his injuries instead? I dunno man, I don't really have a problem with him doing it maybe just because I realize him resting and being healthy in games that matter is more important than playing 3 innings in a meaningless game. Personally I think this is more of a Red Sox decision than Manny's.

Good win tonight vs. the White Sox. Lester showed guts again tonight, he clearly wasn't sharp but got out of the jams. He looks like the real deal to me, but he needs to cut down on the base runners he's allowing to get on because sooner or later he'll get into serious trouble.

Ortiz is swinging a very hot bat right now and Gonzo where did you learn how to hit?

Anyway Beckett vs. Garcia should be a good match up tomorrow. Hopefully Beckett could keep the ball in the ballpark. I'm starting to like Boston's 4 starters right now and can't wait until next year with the possible rotation of Schilling, Beckett, Wakefield, Lester, and Papelbon.

Oh just an FYI: Edgar Martinez (RHP) will be in the Future's Game for the Sox. He could be called up later this year to help with the bullpen. Just something to look forward too.

i can't believe people have such a problem with someone turning down an all-star game, in any sport. first of all, i don't buy that people vote for "the players they want to see." it's just a bunch of uneducated dumb fans voting for these online things, that's why mark loretta is starting. do fans REALLY want to see mark loretta? or robinson cano? no, they just don't know of any other 2nd basemen in the AL so they pick the one from the sox or yankees.

Or maybe because Loretta is batting .304, .349 OBP, 42 runs scored, 3 home runs, and 34 RBIs. That's pretty good for a 2nd baseman. Cano's numbers are pretty much the same as Loretta so I don't know how you could argue about either of these guys making the team. Who would you have voted for? I think the 2nd base position is a little weak argument, I mean yes Lopez on Seattle probably deserved to start but you should have brought up the catching vote. I mean Pudge shouldn't even be on the team, at least Loretta and Cano should be. How Pudge won I have no idea. That was an uneducated dumb vote. There really isn't a big name 2nd baseman in the AL, like a Roberto Alomar.

Personally I think the fans have done a good job in voting for players since 2002 or 2003. Sure there's going to be 1 or 2 questionable picks but that's always going to happen. Better than in the past when it was 6 ot 7 questionable picks.

Best bullpen in baseball?

Ah... I don't know. I mean Timlin and Papelbon are great. IF Hansen and Delcarmen can pitch like people say they can then yes, however they're both still young and raw but I'll take them over Seanez or Juilian. Then I'd have to say yes, especially considering every team in the MLB in the playoff race will be looking for bullpen help, the Sox help might come from their own system.

I'm really like Javy Lopez too. This trade is working out for the Red Sox.

And yes I agree this is how you draft players. I wonder if people still think the Sox are overrated their prospects a bit.... Papelbon and Lester sure don't seem overrated right now and Hansen and Delcarmen are making their own cases now.

Good win today for the RED Sox, taking the first 2 games really sends a message to the Pale Sox. Beckett worries me a bit giving up a lot of home runs but he's still get W's for the Sox so that's all that matters. Papelbon continues to pitch like a MVP/Cy Young. Hansen pitched well today, although his line doesn't say so but none of the hits he gave up were hit hard at all, he just had bad luck. Lopez pitched great.

MVPapi continues to swing a hot bat too.

I still think the White Sox are a good team, I have more respect for their line up than I used too because they're way better than I thought. But their pitching isn't as good as it was last year.

Looking for the sweep today against Jose Contreras who has been unreal since last July. The Sox have knocked him around when he was with the Yankees, but he's clearly a different pitcher now. Should be an interesting game with Curt taking the mound. You know he wants to prove a point to Ozzie about the ASG so look for him to pitch well.

Baseball is a funny game, the Red Sox couldn't get out of their own way in Tampa Bay yet they're beating up a better White Sox team, while Tampa Bay is rolling over for the Yankees, a lesser team right now. Go figure.
