The 2006 Boston Red Sox Thread

Another well pitched game today by another young Sox pitcher in this case 26 year old Beckett going 8, striking out 7 and having the game again being closed out by Papelbon.

However the big news was that Josh Beckett will be with the Red Sox for at least 3 more years, signing a 3 year extension worth 30 million (with an option for the 4th year for 12.5 million). Good move by the Sox. Although Beckett has been bad at times, he's still a proven big game winner and once he learns how to pitch he'll be flat out nasty.

P.S. The Sox bats need to wake up.

Bad news: Wakefield has a broken rib and will go on the DL. No word on who's going to get called up but I doubt it'll be Johnson.

Good win today vs. Texas. Pitching was strong again today with Schilling going 7, Delcarmen pitching the 8th and Timlin closing it out in the 9th today to give Papelbon rest.

Wily Mo had a nice return for the Sox with 2 hits and 2 RBIs.

Anyway tonight's game with the Yankees and the Blue Jays is win/win. Who ever loses will be deeper down in the standings.

People can say what they want about Kyle Snyder getting released from the Royals, but KC made a mistake.

Snyder continues to come out (with pretty good stuff to boot).. throw strikes and challenge opposing hitters. Outside of one poor inning against the Athletics last week, he's been an excellent 5th starter type for us. With the job he's done since being picked up off waivers, he's earned a spot in this rotation.

Also, great to see the bats finally come alive tonight. The ball is flying out of Safeco, already 5 homeruns off Moyer..

You know what, not to sound like a homer but Snyder has good movement on his off speed pitches. I was at the game Sunday vs. Oakland sitting right behind home plate and his curveball was nasty and his change up was also moving well. And you're right besides from that 1 inning he's pitched very well. The Sox got Arroyo from Pitts when they released him and it looks like the Sox got the same type of pitcher (good curve etc) in Synder.

that was a good game today, felix pitched really good. tommarow lester will probally dominate tommarow.

Felix was nasty today. Those curveballs he threw to Ortiz and Manny in the 1st inning were flat out unhittable.

I didn't think Kason Gabbard didn't pitch badly. He showed he has some good stuff. The blown call by the ump hurt him and he went downhill from there but giving up only 2 runs in 5 innings before that is pretty good. I'm all for having him start another game to see what else he has in him, it's better option than Johnson.
