The 2006 Boston Red Sox Thread

Terrible loss. Just terrible. Coco totally misplayed that ball on Beltre, Manny booted it and the cut off throw was horrible. I still can't believe it. Loretta also shouldn't have swung at the 2-0 pitch in the 8th from Lowe who couldn't find the plate, especially with Ortiz on deck.

At least the Yankees lost so they couldn't gain any ground. Now it's on to Oakland. With Beckett, Schilling and Synder pitching against Kirk Sarloos, Zito, and Haren. The Sox should take 2 out of 3.

anyone else think the Sox should be atleast 6 up on the Yanks right now?

they keep blowing opportunities to pull away :shakeno:

I agree, the Sox have played 1 all around good game since the All-Star break (Schilling vs. Oakland on July 15th).

Although I think the Yankees got a wake up call in Canada this weekend, both with their rotation and about the Jays. They still have to play them a number of games from now until the end of the season.

I understand getting on those guys, especially Coco for what was a putrid throw to the cutoff man. But if ANYONE deserves blame for tonights loss, it's Mike Timlin. Coco would have never been put in that position if Timlin didn't give up a 400 ft shot to a piece of garbage like Adrian Beltre.

Then the next inning he comes out after a huge homerun by Varitek and proceeds to piss the game away by serving up a gopher ball to another underachiever in Richie Sexson. 2 pitches hit a combined 800 ft by two underachievers is simply unacceptable.

I agree, although Timlin never should have pitched the 9th. He got hit very hard in the 8th and historically he's not a 2 inning pitcher and tends to give up runs in his 2nd inning of work. I would have went with Van Buren to see what he could do than stick with Timlin.

And no Papelbon doesn't pitch until the Sox have a lead. We all saw in Minnesota what happens when the Sox have someone other than Papelbon or Timlin try to close a game.

Not only are they leaving the door open for the Yankees, but the Blue Jays are creeping back into the picture.

I like the Blue Jays a lot but I don't see them overtaking either the Sox or Yankees.

Yankees with A Rod not being able to make a single throw or hit the ball seem to be sinking back. A bit of Red Sox news, I am not sure if anyone talked about it yet, but there are rumors that Mike Lowell may be traded to my Padres? SD has a good bullpen so if you need a reliever then that might be a good trade. I heard about the Mike Lowell thing a few days ago on ESPN.

I have not heard that rumor, but if SD has a good bullpen then I would gladly make something work.

I agree, but every game the Sox and Yanks sputter in neutral gives Toronto a chance. That's a team that should be well in their rear view mirrors right now.

Peavy and Linebrink for Lowell?

...Done deal!

(I'm only dreaming about the addition of Linebrink into the deal, but I've heard rumors of a Lowell for Peavy swap, which is a deal I believe the Red Sox would have to make).
