The 2006 Boston Red Sox Thread

Javy Lopez is now officially a member of the Boston Red Sox. The Sox will probably have to send either Adam Stern (OF) or Alejandro Machando (INF) to Baltimore. Of course both of them would have to claim waivers in order to be traded to them this year. Personally I'd rather see Stern go as the team doesn't have much need for Stern due to the depth of OF talent in the MLB and in the minors. Machando is a decent utility guy.

Someone claimed Andruw Jones off waivers....could it be the Red Sox? I doubt it is because the Red Sox have like the 3rd or 4th best record in baseball but it's interesting to say the least!

Multiple teams claimed him apparently.

But he's been awarded to a un-named team. Braves have til 1 pm ET Saturday to workout a trade or pull him off of waivers and not be able to trade him the rest of the year.

Oh wow. I'd love to land Jones. He'd be a huge upgrade over Coco in CF both defensively and offensively. I doubt he'll be traded, especially to Boston but hey you never know. Gotta love the waiver wire.

Big Papi comes through again tonight.. If this guy doesn't win the MVP this year, I don't know what you have to do (besides play defense)..

If the Sox make the playoffs I'd say he's pretty much a lock, especially because no one in the AL has numbers close to him. This isn't like last year when Arod had pretty much the same if not better numbers. He's leading the MLB in HR and RBIs and has been clutch as hell again this year. I think we'll finally see him win the MVP award and have all the non-Red Sox fans complain about how he's not a full player.

Another tough loss. The Sox need to start to step it up. Coco Crisp has stepped it up as of late but the Sox are getting even less production out of their catcher than they did when Tek was healthy.

Hopefully tomorrow they win and then start to get hot and on a roll once again. I don't like these tight races.

oh my god i called the bunt by ortiz right before he did it. i was like "if he hates the shift so much he should just bunt!"

but i'll take the bunt over a HR any day of the week.

You obviously rather see Ortiz swing the bat but there are certain situations where you don't mind if he bunts just to get on base.

Ortiz has 39 home runs right now we just under 2 months left. It's a long shot for him to get to 60 but let's say the guy hits 62 home runs, I wonder if people would consider him the single year home run record king instead of Bonds (especially the big Maris fans who refuse to acknowledge Bonds' record).

i doubt it, because there has to be some question about Ortiz with steriods as well, as he really spiked in production quickly....Im not sayin he took them, nor do i have a reason to believe he did, im just sayin, hes not a guy people would look at and say, "we'll...clearly he didnt take steriods"

Oh no I agree with you. You can't discount anyone. But I think people forget that when he was in Minnesota he was still very young and the Twins didn't want him to hit for power but wanted him to use the small ball approach by moving the runner over and giving yourself up. Of course he was hurt a lot by playing on the turf everyday and fought knee injuries (which is very common from playing on turf). Of course he did show signs of major power there too. I think being in the Sox line up and playing most of his games at Fenway help him up greatly along with his new approach to the plate.

Edwin Jackson.. That was bad, remember when this guy was a top 10 prospect..

Not only that but I heard from many scouts that the kid was going to be a can't miss superstar and the next big thing.
