Big Papi with the walk-off homerun..

5-4 Red Sox win! Hopefully Pauley goes out there and pitches well in the nightcap.

Who says there's no such thing as clutch?

That was Ortiz's 5th or 6th walk off home run for the Red Sox in the past 3 years.

Who says that there's no such thing as clutch?

I thought Beckett threw pretty well yesterday. He never should have went out for the 6th inning as his pitch count was very high. Francona always seems to throw his pitchers out there for 1 inning too long. Another good example was with Tarveras on Saturday. The guy gave the Sox 1.2 good innings and then threw him out there for another inning and it bites him.

Seanez WAS pitching half way decent in his past 3 or 4 outings but he's back to being Seanez. Time for him to be released in favor for seeing Delcarmen or Hansen pitching more.

Foulke, what more can you say.

Some minor league notes:

David Murphy (OF) is hitting .339 (20 for 59 with 6 doubles, 2 triples, 3 home runs and 13 RBIs, .429 OBP) in 16 games for Pawtucket since he was promoted. He's making a case to possibly be called up as a 4th or 5th outfielder (depending on Wily Mo's health) and also a replacement for Nixon next year (thank god).

Also Craig Breslow (Left handed relief pitcher and CT boy) has been pitching very well in Triple A posting a 2.43 ERA, 5 and 1 record with 5 saves in 18 games. 33.1 innings pitched, 24 hits, 9 runs, 11 walks, 37 Ks and a WHIP of 1.05. Maybe the Sox should think about dumping Seanez in favor of giving this kid a chance. After all especially since he's a lefty pitcher with some MLB experience.

I fell asleep before i found out who won the second game.

Did boston take that one?

Timlin's back tomorrow...

Yeah that's big news in itself. The bullpen, besides Papelbon and Timlin is shakey or sucks. Although I'd like to see more of Riske and Delcarmen instead of the 3 Sucko Amigos (Tarveras, Seanez and Foulke).

agreed... pen needs an influx.... why not Lester to long relief? could use a lefty against NY...

All this talking about clutch:

Apparently David Ortiz called his home run shot yesterday:
http://www.ecnnews.com/cgi-bin/O5/etstory.pl?-sec-Sports+fn-fn-fn-fn-fn-fn-bradford12-20060612-fn

Also, there was a good article about clutch (David Ortiz) and anti-clutch (Alex Rodriguez):
http://www.boston.com/sports/nesn/wilbur/sports_blog/blog/2006/06/12/clutch_of_the_argument/index.html

But very good and interesting articles to read.

That 2nd article hits it on the head:

It’s up in the air as to which fans seem to dislike A-Rod more, but the contention here is that maybe Red Sox fans ought to imagine what life would have been like with the one-time shortstop. Rodriguez on the Yankees is one of the best things to ever happen to the Red Sox. They ought to love the fact that he continually comes up short, failing to deliver unless the game isn’t on the line. I mean, the man should be cheered continually at Fenway. He should have a statue downtown. Sit him next to Red down at Faneuil.

IF you guys get ARod Manny is gone and that kills your lineup, Schilling is a Yankee and the Yanks have # 27 while the "curse" lives on. Oh why did the players union have to veto the trade??????????

how many sox fans will be down hear for the three game series against the marlins

IF Wells comes back I'm sure Lester will be in the pen in a the role Papelbon had last year. But right now Lester is going to start until he proves he can't.

If the Sox got Arod, you are correct Manny would be gone, however Schilling would still be a Sox. The Red Sox traded for Schilling in mid to late November and the Arod trade whatever you want to call it happened in the middle of December. Schilling was even calling Arod telling him to come join the Red Sox.

As for the curse living on, who knows what would have happened. Maybe Arod would have turned into Mr. October for the Red Sox..... :sidelol: (Ok I'm kidding, I'm kidding)
