The 2006 Boston Red Sox Thread

Well, I just got home from work (after listening to WEEI all day). I'm glad that Theo didn't do anything stupid like trading away our young arms.

Time for the Sox to really turn it on for the stretch run... we can win with what we have, but certain guys need to step it up (Crisp, Varitek and Wily Mo, with Nixon on the DL).

100% agree. Nixon is on the DL again (I'm shocked). So Wily Mo has to prove to the FO that he can play for the Sox so they could save money and not resign the breaking down Nixon next year.

What happened to the super cy young, hall of famer pitcher Curt Schilling last night?

He had a bad game, didn't you watch it?

He's still 13 and 4 with a 3.84 ERA and one of the better pitchers in baseball.

Everyone has off nights the guy is 13-4 with a 3.84 era.. 1st in wins, 3rd in K's, 3rd in innings, 6th in WHIP.. I am not worried about Curt Schilling the pitcher, I am worried that all of these regular season homeruns he has give up will translate to bad postseason results if we make it.. that being said Curt Schilling has proven himself one of the top 5 postseason pitchers of all-time..

From Theo:

"We came close on a lot of things … countless opportunities we were pursuing …We have a long term plan and as much as we desperately wanted to do something to help our big league team, it would have been short-sighted to sacrifice that long-term plan. It just wasn’t worth it.

"Very disappointing [not being able to make a deal]. We have a lot of people in the front office and scouts that worked very hard to get things done.

"In the end, we gathered around everybody, thanked them for their hard work. We’re proud of the process, and proud of the results… There’s always an opportunity for waiver deals." -- 7.31.06, Theo Epstein on the trade deadline

I'm glad they didn't go out and make a move just to make one. Looking at some of the names that got traded, none of them would have made a big impact other than Bobby Abreu. I mean I'd rather stick with the guys we have now, including the prospects in the minors than trade a "Freddy Sanchez" for a Jeff Suppan and have it be a non-factor.

Sure getting Andruw Jones would have been nice but trading Coco, Hansen AND Lester? No thanks. Way too much to ask. Kip Wells? See Jeff Suppan.

Well the Sox need to step it up now. They haven't played well since the All-Star break and now with the trading deadline over there's no excuses it's time to play baseball.

Good post. Let's hope "Theo's plan" is a good one.

They listened to you so far.

Wily Mo has to be in the line up everyday even when Nixon comes back. He's just kills the ball and could run too.

David Ortiz, are you kidding me?

He continues to do it, and I continue to be amazed. That ball was completely destroyed.

This guy is beyond incredible.. and I'm not sure people appreciate how good this guy really is, and how impressive what he's doing really is..

They guy is amazing...i knew this was gone before he hit the ball...he deserves MVP in my book

I'm sorry but I don't care what anyone says about him not playing defense. David Ortiz has been the American League MVP for the past 3 years in a row in my book. If he doesn't win it this year then it's a joke. NO ONE is this clutch. MVPAPI baby!

My question is why the hell do teams keep pitching to him?

Make someone else beat you I dont care who it is, pitch to Manny, make him beat you.

Also, not to take away from what Papi did, but BIG PROPS to Kyle Snyder holding the line and giving us a chance to win this thing.
