Ladies and gentlemen, for the last time: this is professional sports. What wins in professional sports is professional athletes making plays. Put Peyton Manning on this team right now and we go minimum 11-5 and are a super bowl contender. I dont give a crap who the coach is, just get out of the way and let the professional athletes win you the games.

Coaching in the NFL is so overrated and is a freaking easy excuse for why a team is bad. The route trees are the same. The progressions similar. Sure there are nuances here and there and yes some coaching staffs are better than others, but give me players. PLAYERS!! Cleveland sucks for 4 decades and hires Chud for one year, and he's gone. Do you really think it will be any different with brand XYZ coaching that team unless the talent and QB get there?

I would ask this question to all of you that think if we had Cowher or Gruden or Jesus Effing Christmas coaching us...........

Why have ZERO head coaches in NFL history won a super bowl with his NEXT team after winning one with the previous team?

Its almost comical how we think this coaching thing is our answer. Hell, Wanny could have taken us to a super bowl if we had a QB then who could make a play in crunch time. WE would likely be in the playoffs NOW if Tanny hits Wallace deep last Sunday to go ahead 14-0 - we would have never looked back. Instead, another missed opportunity and another game we cant make a play. Tanny overthrows by 5 yards. This league, just like the NBA and MLB and NHL is about MAKING PLAYS. Who makes plays? The best players consistently make plays and make them at times that WIN games. WE have players that consistently FAIL to make plays up and down the roster. It cannot be overcome. Well, it can be if you have Peyton Manning at QB, or Tom Brady, but a pro bowl punter, center, corner and def end are NOT enough to vercome a blatant lack of playmaking up and down. Missed blocks, missed assignments, key penalties, missed tackles, turnovers, lack of 3rd down conversions etc will all doom a team over 17 weeks. We just saw it all, and some games (8 to be exact) we overcame these errors, barely.

To get to the promised land takes :

1. commitment to a philosophy for your football program - a foundation
2. effective leadership at top levels of organization
3. leadership from within a pro team - vets who drive the culture and demand accountability from all 53
4. serious TALENT acquisition at all positions to meet the team's core philosophy - then the talent goes out and INDIVIDUALLY win their battles to allow the team to win theirs
5. a bit of lightning in the bottle - the stars align and talent meets preparation meets commitment meets work ethic meets opportunity

Will a new O-coord really get us there next year? Not if we don't get serious talent and this talent performs. Not unless Tanny takes a big step and starts making more chunk plays consistently. Not if we don't have a running back who can convert a 3rd and one. Not if we dont get inside linebackers who can range sideline to sideline and make plays all over the field.

This is about talent performing. You can sit and coach up crap all day long, but at the end of the day its still just crap. Why are the Miami Heat 26-8 and the NBA defending champs, while the Sacramento Kings are 10-21 and floundering ? Maybe if the Kings had Spoelstra was coaching the Kings it would be different. Ok that was dripping with sarcasm. But what would the records look like if Wade and Lebron were on the Kings?

You get the point. This is about talent making plays. We lack it, all over the place. So go and get the noose ready for Sherman, Philbin, Coyle and hell even Rizzo and the rest. But it won't change, just like it hasn't in the past 13 years since we won an effing playoff game. Since then about 8 coaches but what has remained is this: lack of players making plays.

WE have missed on acquiring dynamic playmakers for too long. It looks like another lost year coming, another lost draft. Why we continue to wait is beyond me. ALL ROSS NEEDS TO KNOW IS THIS: PLAYERS MAKING GODDAMM PLAYS.

Although I do want a coaching change, you are absolutely correct. Talent wins. We are Denver right now with Peyton. But we couldn't close on Peyton. How many superstars do we have on our team? That's on Ireland! Look at the Singletary/ Harbaugh comparison in SF, coaching matters in the NFL at least more than other sports. We couldn't close on Harbaugh either. It's not every offseason where you have a chance to acquire these type of assets but we haven't drafted even a borderline hall of fame type player since the mid 90's. I know that every team misses on the majority of their draft picks but it is obvious to me that we have the wrong people making our draft picks. If you disagree, then you are accepting mediocrity.

If Peyton played behind this Oline he would look like Christopher Reeves right now.
We would've been minimum 11-5. But your point is correct. Again, a lack of talent on Miami. Ireland and Parcells showed up 5 years ago and wanted to rebuild the online. And now 5 years later the oline is even worse than when they arrived.

Don't worry we are going to get plenty of playmaking Offensive linemen in this years draft… FML

If Peyton was made to play Sherman's offense, how effective would he be? Manning's asset is his mind. You cut that off and make him run read progression and you limit his greatest asset. That is coaching. You are struggling in the first half of a game, you adjust and come out better in the second half, that is coaching. You experience a major locker room problem (Martin/Incognito) and have trouble getting prepared for your next game, that is coaching. I actually think coaching is more important in football, a real "team" sport, than in other team sports like baseball, basketball, etc...

Beating the teams you are supposed to beat-that's coaching. Coming out with the playoffs on the line and not being "flat"-that's coaching.

^^ This /end thread.

This thread was not merely the hypothetical of Manning playing for Miami. And you can damn well bet if he had, even with this line, he would have demanded better performance and led this team. He would have stayed on the field at practice until it was right, and got in people's faces on the sideline and in meeting rooms. It's what great players do. They command it and demand accountability of teammates. Every sport, every time.

I completely disagree. This is professional sports, not middle school. Leave the rah rah for your high school, bro. You really think Ray Lewis needed his coach to get him pumped and the rest of his team motivated? Get real! His coach needed a veteran like Lewis to singlehandedly never allow his team to come out flat.

These are grown men making more money than the coaches. You seriously think they need a pump up speech? Laughable.

And now the latest excuse as to why our offense sucks......"read progression".

It just has to be coaching! There is no way Tannehill sucks all by himself at crunch time the last two weeks, because we suddenly put in read progression to stifle him!!!

Let's get one thing straight. If Peyton had come to Miami, he would not be running read progression. And Sherman is in no way the only coordinator stressing read progression with his young QB. You see, young QBs, especially ones who played 15 games in college, can't be fully trusted to let loose the reigns and freelance. The threat of turnovers is too great. So coordinators will bring young QBs along with progression, almost programming them so their decision making can come more quickly and threat of the backbreaking turnover or negative play is minimalized.

Now don't get me wrong, I am not necessarily agreeing with Sherman here but only explaining why they do it. Same thing Atlanta did with Ryan the first couple years. Same as many young QBs but surely not all. It's all about how risk adverse the staff is. Ours seems very risk adverse, to a fault perhaps.

But rest assured no way in hell Peyton would be running that. He would have nearly an equal say in what the hell the team is going to do week to week. It's a whole different ballgame with a player of that caliber.

It all comes down to talent, and Ireland doesn't know how to find it. But also coaching. I bet if belicheck was our coach this yr. We're in the playoffs. He knows how
to get the most out of not so talented players.
