The Answer Is Here

It all comes down to talent, and Ireland doesn't know how to find it. But also coaching. I bet if belicheck was our coach this yr. We're in the playoffs. He knows how
to get the most out of not so talented players.
I wouldn't bet on that. Remember, the Pats still had Brady. And he carried the team. If Brady went down that team is 7-9 at best.

If Peyton played behind this Oline he would look like Christopher Reeves right now.
If Peyton had played behind our O-line, maybe J-Mart would have been more careful not to spill his spaghetti in the cafeteria and Richie would be getting his "rookie nig** bitch" to pay for his next Ferrari and scheduling extra mandatory O-line team meetings at the Ft Lauderdale strip club.

I really want Sherma gone, but the other day I was thinking similar stuff.

They were talking the other day on the radio about QB's and learning from the pocket instead of using tactics that only regress that natural decision making ability from the pocket that is essential.

I believe Sherman is thinking in this manner as much as I disagree with it when you need 1 yard on the goaline or for a first down.

I do not disagree with some of the notiions about Philbin and Ireland, but I also believe they had circumstances beyond their control this year.

And now the latest excuse as to why our offense sucks......"read progression".

It just has to be coaching! There is no way Tannehill sucks all by himself at crunch time the last two weeks, because we suddenly put in read progression to stifle him!!!

Let's get one thing straight. If Peyton had come to Miami, he would not be running read progression. And Sherman is in no way the only coordinator stressing read progression with his young QB. You see, young QBs, especially ones who played 15 games in college, can't be fully trusted to let loose the reigns and freelance. The threat of turnovers is too great. So coordinators will bring young QBs along with progression, almost programming them so their decision making can come more quickly and threat of the backbreaking turnover or negative play is minimalized.

Now don't get me wrong, I am not necessarily agreeing with Sherman here but only explaining why they do it. Same thing Atlanta did with Ryan the first couple years. Same as many young QBs but surely not all. It's all about how risk adverse the staff is. Ours seems very risk adverse, to a fault perhaps.

But rest assured no way in hell Peyton would be running that. He would have nearly an equal say in what the hell the team is going to do week to week. It's a whole different ballgame with a player of that caliber.
I think what you're honing in on here and in the thread in general is that, prior to the last two games, most people here had settled on the idea that Ryan Tannehill had improved enough to make the team highly competitive, and given the importance of that improvement in terms of the team's ability to win long-term, which is of course what everybody here wants, most of those same people are very reluctant to consider that idea could have been incorrect.

Instead it's easier to nominate other reasons for the team's late-season collapse, and direct all of one's attention to "fixing" those things, hence the overwhelming attention to coaching and personnel. Other personnel that is, mind you, not the QB. :)

Agreed with the talent trumping coaching comment. But also if Peyton were the QB he wouldn't lounge around on the sideline during the game picking his nose, grinning and playing grabass.

Tannehill can make good throws at times but there seems to be something missing with him in the smarts department.

Yeah like when Matt Cassell stepped in for an injured Brady and didnt do squat..........wait nevermind......

The Matt Cassell team was FAR superior to the 2013 Pats team. This years Pats team was singlehandedly carried by Brady. But nice try on the comparison.

Couldn't have said it better myself!

It's not like Tannehill can even feel a pressure or evade it. Peyton is more like Marino was with great pocket awareness and an ability to make subtle moves to create space and buy time. Peyton at QB for this team is worth a minimum of 3 wins if not more.

This thread was not merely the hypothetical of Manning playing for Miami. And you can damn well bet if he had, even with this line, he would have demanded better performance and led this team. He would have stayed on the field at practice until it was right, and got in people's faces on the sideline and in meeting rooms. It's what great players do. They command it and demand accountability of teammates. Every sport, every time.

Maybe he needs to be our next coach

More mediocre homer excuses. I disagree Dude. If Peyton played for us this past season, we would be 12-4. He would have hit Wallace Deep about 10 times and Hartline would have nearly 1,500 yards. We would have not lost to Tampa, Carolina, Buffalo, or the Jets. Oh look 12-4 man. And in the Playoffs, instead of sitting home moaning about the offensive line.

not that i think this is true but it's funny...anyways peytons a 15 year like veteran of course he can handle some things different than a 2nd year nfl starter and 4th year starter college and pros combined

duh

it's like the words qb development are thrown out the window around here...

The same team that did Fine with Matt cassell? Coaching is damn important i can't believe a die hard football fan thinks otherwise

If Peyton was on this team then he would be calling audibles left and right to get out of the crap plays Sherman calls. In other words, Peyton would be our OC.
