The Botton Line On Aj.........

Agreed. The closest comparisons to Feeley I can think of are Matt Hasselbeck(?) and Jake Delhomme.

Can you do me a huge favor, please? Look up Hasselbeck and Delhomme's college games started, and NFL games started and Feeley's college and professional games started. I would be interested in how much experience lead to the previous two players getting it and succeeding.

I remember in January the Miami Herald ran a story that said Saban has said "A.J. Feeley was my guy", then a month or so later they signed Gus, after they had picked up Linehan, so do you think Sabans mind has changed in A.J. being his guy??, a 28 year old with a good arm, and maybe Gus was brought in to help Feeley with not only Linehan's offense, but with his knowledge of the position??. Some people have said that Gus is going to start because of his knowledge, and thats not my opinion, all the so called experts have said that. But IMHO, he was brought in to give Feeley a helping hand, and be a teacher, and this way though know if Feeley fails, they have someone on the bench with a great knowledge of the offense....just my thoughts

once again, trash.

Schefter interviewed AJ on Total Access earlier in the year, and Adam straight up said "Has Nick Saban told you directly that you are the starter?" Feeley said "No."

I dont know how much clearer you can get, Saban NEVER named a starter, ever

I remember the story. It was BS. Saban said AJ will have a chance to start thats all. The herald and sentinal screwed up and misquoted Saban. It was later stated by AJ and Saban that there was no starter, and broke Feeley huggers hearts worldwide.

I agree, we need to give the guy we invested a 2nd round pick a year to see if he is what we all want him to be. AJ Feeley got a raw deal last year. I don't think he is half as bad as he's shown. I just think our entire offense was crap and it made him look extremely bad.

See the thing is, just because we traded a 2nd rounder for him it doesn't mean he was ACTUALLY worth that pick to begin with. Face it, we got screwwwwwwwwwed with a capital "S" in the deal considering the proven talent being shipped these days for 2nd and 3rd rounders. So to me, that expression of "We invested a 2nd round pick" doesn't hold much weight in terms of how many chances I wanna give him. It was a raw deal to start with.

damn, why do people want feeley to be handed the job? if he's as good as all of his fans think he is, he'll beat out frerotte in a route. let training camp play out daggumitt!

I think it's pretty fair to say if Feeley doesn't completely and unequivocally outshine Frerotte, he's lookin' forward to another season ridin' in and out of the pine.

just because Spielman screwed up and overpaid for him. GREAT idea!!!
Spielman did not over pay.

AJ cost was right on par with what most young QBs that teams are wanting to be their starter. Heck Buffalo gave up the No. 8 pick of the '98 draft for Rob Johnson & he had only played one game prior to being traded. At least AJ had about 5 prior to being traded for a future years 2nd.

I think it depends on where the team is. If Saban thinks this team has a chance then the best player will play, but if he thinks the team is a year or two away and if he sees talent in AJ then AJ will start.

Anyone with a little common sense knows that we are not superbowl bound (yet). If starting Gus allowed us to win 2 games more than leaving his thrid string #$$ on the bench all year what have we really gained. AJ needs a chance with a real scheme and a decent O-line to show us what he has period. Let him play the whole year and at the end of the season if it is clear that he is not the ans. we can move on.

Gus under center will drive me as crazy as wanny running the ball on third in six right up the gut. GUS is 100% not the ans for a long term QB. SO PLEASE let's have some patience and see what AJ can really do...........:fire:

 I agree to let A.J. get his chance behind a decent line but remember Trent Dilfer who everybody said could never win a superbowl, and was a washed up VET (Trent was able to do it behind a great defence). Let A.J. play half the season and if he sucks then let Gus take over.

I doubt that he has to outshine Frerotte. He only needs to play as well. All thing being equal you go with the younger player in hopes that he continues to improve

Exactly. That way, we know what we have for a future and can act accordingly in the off season if AJ is not our man. But he needs a chance.
