The brunt of the blame falls on Philbin and Sherman

While I still think this loss had more to do with personnel than coaching, it cannt be disputed that they had an awful gameplan to combat the Bills pass rush.

The Patriots had an excellent plan to combat the Dolphins pass rush last week. Short rhythm passes to simulate a rushing attack. Screens, etc. Brady got the ball out in under 2 seconds to ensure that our rush couldn't get him.

We basically did the opposite. Calling plays that required time to develop against a fierce pass rush and a porous OL. And to make matters worse, the coaches did NOTHING to adjust to this throughout the game. This was a game that required a dunk and dunk passing attack with outside runs and screens. The coaches seemed to do the opposite, which is mind boggling

I agree. While the personnel and O-line play are a dumpster fire everyone knows that and our OC fails to put together a proper game plan to try and counter it. The best D-line in the NFL facing the worst O-line in the NFL and you think they're going to pass block? Tannehill was getting hit on a 3-step drop. He called 34 pass plays with Tannehill and Tannehill got hit, pressured or sacked on about 24 of those. I think it was 7 sacks, 13 pressures and about 4 hits.

IMO the two biggest reasons we got stomped by the Bills are:

1. Jeff Ireland building a terrible OL and handing his coaches cruddy backs to work with

2. Mike Sherman refusing to accept the fact that he has a terrible OL.

Without saying anything about the QB or his play (I really don't have anything positive to say except that he didn't turn it over), how on earth do you expect your passing game to function when your QB is being pressured on over 50% of his dropbacks?

Spot on

Mike Sherman is to offense what Dave wannstadt was to defense. We're going to line up, play basic football and lean heavy on talent and perfect execution. However sometimes we are not the most talented team on the field or our execution is disrupted. When that happens the are like a deer in the headlights and have nothing to offer as a solution. If anything we get less creative and more predictable. That's when the games spiral out if control and we get results like yesterday.

After watching the Eagles last night chew up Chicago with their innovative offense, I realized how stuck in the stone age our offense is. Very little motion, roll outs, bootlegs or getting our few playmakers in space or in motion. NEVER. Sherman has to go, and if Philbin, who I like, is not willing to part ways with his friend, then he needs to go too. No doubt in my mind that Ireland has been a total bust at identifying talent in the top of the draft, just look at the last draft. I don't care if he hits on 6th round picks or undrafted FA's. For a team starving for talent this guy is clueless. Personally if we get in the playoffs Philbin deserves to stay, but he has to be willing to clean house and upgrade our offensive staff. If Ross cannt see Ireland's failures then we are in huge trouble.

Even in this day and age, the old adage remains true: you win by being able to run the ball and stop the run. And the Dolphins can do neither.

Their defense is built to stop the pass. However, their offense does not have the firepower to jump out to quick leads that force good running teams to abandon it.

The way Ivory and Powell were running yesterday, I am no longer confident that the Dolphins will beat the Jets.
