The Cam Wake Haters - You Know Who You Were

They over paid...much like this team does with ALL of its linemen...

Ridiculous. They got him at a discount for the last 3 years . . . and now they have him for the next 5 years at 10 million a year . . . . . how is that overpaying? You don't think he is worth 10 milion a year? Not factoring the 600K/yr or so he got paid the previous 3 years?

It's a great deal for Wake and a great deal for the Dolphins.

From memory he wasn't unleashed straight away, was introduced gradually into the lineup. Think it is ok to be sceptical on anyone but to say with conviction that someone won't succeed especially on the team you follow is a bit silly.

Only because we had an underachieving Joey Porter making a ton and JT on the slow decline ahead of him. I believe Wake a stat like the highest pressure per snap in the NFL in his debut year or most sacks per snap . . . something like that. Had we unleashed him in 2009, there's a chance we could of made the playoffs that year in all those close 3 point games we lost down the stretch.

Right now, Wake is the best pass rusher on the team. Not dominant on his own, but very effective when he has help on the other side.
I have no problem with him getting the money, but he better produce some double digits.

How do you get 17 sacks in a season with Koa Misi opposite you and not call that "being dominant on your own" . . . then he has the most missed holding calls on the league.

You can't let stats blur your vision. I've seen Wake go from a situational pass rusher to a guy who is literally ALL OVER THE FIELD. He stuffs the run, he tracks downs RB's, he goes sideline to sideline, he rushes the passer, I've seen him drop back in coverage . . . he gives his all on every play and at times early last year when this defense was gassed, he was the only one that acted like he gave a damn.

I'll vouch for Wake anytime, dude is a top 5 defender in the NFL . . . maybe his stats don't say so, but just watching him you know that he is . . . and he is in his prime.

I don't remember anybody hating on Cam Wake when he was signed. I remember a number of threads detailing his stats from the CFL and a few videos posted...I remember one specifically showing his athletic ability...he jumped up and tore a piece of the cieling out of the locker room and the video said the height was 11'4" I think.

Anyway re-signing Wake was big and I think he'll do well rushing the passer in the 4-3 front from the DE spot. I still have major concerns about him as a run defender from the spot in the 4 man front. I just don't see a 245 lbs DE holding up against the run but we'll see what happens.

Not sure what the point of these, I told you so, threads are but I dont recall anyone bashing Wake.. Actually, what I remember is people on the board complaining that he wasnt being given enough playing time!

Looks like we have a better cap position by 1 million.. Not too bad taking into account the past contracts we are still making up for. I cant believe how much dead cap space they have and they have horrible cap values.. Thank god we arent HALF as bad in those columns as the Rats are.

Please look at our cap numbers and compare to New england...I only put up Numbers over 2 million...One of those teams has been tot he superbowl 5 times in the last 10 years and 1 hasnt sniffed it since 84...right now WE ARE OVERPAYING FOR AN INFERIOR PRODUCT...(oh, add wake up there...)

If you cant see that then, well....meh

Hey kudos to New England, I was surprised as hell to see that they were in such a good cap situation when free agency started.

As far as 5 SBs in 10 years . . . having the best QB in the league will do that for you. This SAME inferior product won the division the year Brady was not around. That says more about needing that franchise QB and less about the cap situation.

Brady covers up New Englands weaknesses on defense.

And outside of giving top money to the best LT in the game (in a rookie salary cap system where we had no choice) . . . all I see is where we overpaid some for Dansby. Everything else seems reasonable. New England did a good job at handing out a bunch of upfront money and structuring their contracts to help them with their cap . . . again kudos to them. Compare Miami to alot of those other teams and see where they stand.

New England doesn't have a pass rusher that can sniff Cam Wake.

Not sure that I'd classify myself as a hater, but let's just say I wasn't exactly high on Wake's chances when he signed with us.

I'll gladly eat a serving of that crow! :eat:

I am not hating on Wake. I want to see him make some plays at the end of games that seal the win. Last year, we had leads in several games, and no one stepped up in the last couple of minutes...games we eventually lost. He is a great player and I am happy he got the big payday..he definitely deserves it, and the way Ireland found him is a great tribute to Wake's talent, but dominant players make the plays that win the games. Maybe all of you flaming me don't understand my point. He needs help to be even better...he can be even better. I am looking forward to seeing VO as the other bookend and both of them making a sandwich of Brady, Fitz, and Sanch-bo.

You can bet that teams will run at him. I think he will be fine setting the edge and getting penetration to disrupt the play.

I think CK makes a valid point Wake was here a full year and people still couldn't see that Sparano was AFRAID of Joey Porter so he let Porter play ahead of Wake on the depth chart - the naysayers don't understand the nuances of the CFL (the rules are entirely slanted to the offense) and no Messam isn't going to turn your head like Wake in any way shape or form - Messam may not even make the practice roster - if Messam makes the roster it will be because there was room for improvemnet and the staff got the most outof him because I don't think he left everything on the field in the CFL - Wake leaves everything out there

Since everyone is elated to see Cam extend, and to all of us who love to see him cause havoc on the field.......remember........

When we grabbed him from the CFL for nothing, I remember the chaos. Endless threads where a small minority of us fought for the naysayers to give him a chance. All we heard was a forum full of negatives....people who blasted him using the logic that there were so few CFL imports that had ever done well.

We fought to at least give him a chance.

Yes. You know who you were. Can you man up and say you were wrong?

Spent some time today revisiting those old threads. Funny actually......He was written off before a single camp. Man up. Let me hear you now. Can you man up and say you were wrong?

I would rather have everyone who defended Sparano man up.

Well since you went back and did that research, maybe you should be balanced in your approach and see who already ate that crow. But that might be asking to much from you huh?:vaark:

This thread is about 2 years late. As for Wake...he needs to put up some numbers this year. You can't continue to rely on some website or magazine saying your the most held player in the NFL. Eventually, ala Strahan, Taylor and players like Law. Taylor, Derrick Thomas and others, put the numbers up. He has to put the numbers up this year.

As for his motor and heart, second to none.

Dubz came out FIRST front and center after J Porter left I believe 2010

I would rather have everyone who defended Sparano man up.

I defended Sparano initially when he was hired - but not after he wouldn't stand up to BP - playing coach killers like J Porter over way more motivated players like Wake - pathetic
