The Chicago White Sox Thread

I was hoping Dye would become a FA, more bats available will just increase the Angels odds of finally landing some protection for Vlad.

I'm not sure Buehrle is going to resign with the White Sox. He ticked off the FO when he showed up at the WS this year wearing a Cardinals hat and he's also said he'd love to pitch for them. I would be shocked if the Sox are out of the race in July and Buehrle isn't traded.

The White Sox offered him 3-years 30 mil midseason last year and he turned it down. Seeing what other pitchers have got it was a good move on his part. Although i'm not going to fault Kenny Williams for not rushing to throw money at him when he was awful the 2nd half of last season. Konerko and Buehrle are the "leaders" in the clubhouse and if he returns to form losing him would be a huge blow. Buehrle is all about location but he seemed to be down a few MPH last year. I'm thinking all the innings the last few years caught up to him and want to see how he responds.

As for Dye just like Buehrle he'd have to be replaced. They've got young guys behind him just like Buehrle but they got nothing offensively from CF and LF. This team is going to have major questions heading into next offseason.

yeah that^^

The White Sox exhibition season represents a showcase for reliever Sean Tracey and first baseman Casey Rogowski, who are buried at their respective positions. General manager Ken Williams plans to speak with each player to see if either or both would prefer a trade to another organization.

John Danks may have been a little hesitant to leave his hometown Rangers, but coming to the White Sox and being immediately thrust into a competition for the fifth spot in the starting rotation has the talented southpaw excited about his new home.

Right-hander Jose Contreras will see his first Cactus League action on Friday when the White Sox and Diamondbacks battle at Tucson Electric Park, beginning at 2:05 p.m. CT. Prospect Nick Masset is also slated to see his first mound action.

Mark Buehrle and Jermaine Dye, both key to building the successful foundation on which White Sox baseball now rests, are in the final year of their current contracts. Both love playing on the South Side, but know they could be elsewhere in 2008.

I hope Buehrle and Dye resign, they are class acts and are a benifit to the White Sox orginization.

If knuckleballer Charlie Haeger doesn't win the White Sox fifth-starter job, Ozzie Guillen said he's not afraid to use him in relief, even bringing him into a game with men on base.

The White Sox and right-hander Javier Vazquez announced a three-year contract extension, running through 2010, on Thursday. The 30-year-old Vasquez went 11-12 with a 4.84 ERA in 33 starts last season, his first on the South Side

The White Sox had said they would not talk about contracts during the season, but until the first game anything is possible with players such as Mark Buehrle, Jermaine Dye and Tadahito Iguchi playing out the final years of their deals.

While both sides remain open to talks, Mark Buehrle will not accept a three-year deal unless it would be for huge money. And the White Sox appear unwilling to go more than three years for a pitcher or pay anything in the $16 million-per-year range.

I don't want to see the team lose Buehrle but after his 2nd half performance last year they've gotta see him return to being a top of the rotation guy. I hated seeing the McCarthy trade but in a couple years I think Gio Gonzalez will end up being the biggest piece they got in the move. I've been critical of Kenny Williams but i'm starting to like the young arms they've got in the organization.

A source indicated that White Sox general manager Ken Williams has been in talks with Philadelphia GM -- and good friend -- Pat Gillick about a deal that would send middle-relief help, including lefthander Boone Logan, to the Phillies for former Sox outfielder Aaron Rowand.

I loved Aaron Rowand but I don't get any deal to add an OF right now. The price probably will rise during the regular season but if they don't give some of the young prospects atleast a chance they could be in for a terrible year in '08. I'm going to go with a something I hate and say "what if," but if the Sox don't make the trade for Vazquez they're loaded with young talent in the OF. I'm not a huge Vazquez fan based on his performance but i'm going to give him some credit because "stuff" wise he's got as good as good of "stuff" as anybody on the staff. If Buehrle is not re-signed I think Garland probably will get another extension in the upcoming offseason and will end up being the anchor on the staff.

White Sox center fielder Scott Podsednik underwent surgery in late January to repair a sports hernia, and the timetable for a return to the field for a game was March 21. Over the weekend, doctors gave him the green light to take live batting practice, and he did so pain-free.

Ken Williams wasn't happy Wednesday when a fellow White Sox staff member borrowed his golf cart. He became more upset after watching newly acquired left-hander Andrew Sisco surrender four hits and two walks in 11/3 innings to Colorado in a B game. Williams snapped at his coaches for not letting Sisco work out of a jam, then took Sisco for a spirited ride.
