I was hoping Dye would become a FA, more bats available will just increase the Angels odds of finally landing some protection for Vlad.
I'm not sure Buehrle is going to resign with the White Sox. He ticked off the FO when he showed up at the WS this year wearing a Cardinals hat and he's also said he'd love to pitch for them. I would be shocked if the Sox are out of the race in July and Buehrle isn't traded.
The White Sox offered him 3-years 30 mil midseason last year and he turned it down. Seeing what other pitchers have got it was a good move on his part. Although i'm not going to fault Kenny Williams for not rushing to throw money at him when he was awful the 2nd half of last season. Konerko and Buehrle are the "leaders" in the clubhouse and if he returns to form losing him would be a huge blow. Buehrle is all about location but he seemed to be down a few MPH last year. I'm thinking all the innings the last few years caught up to him and want to see how he responds.
As for Dye just like Buehrle he'd have to be replaced. They've got young guys behind him just like Buehrle but they got nothing offensively from CF and LF. This team is going to have major questions heading into next offseason.
I hope Buehrle and Dye resign, they are class acts and are a benifit to the White Sox orginization.John Danks may have been a little hesitant to leave his hometown Rangers, but coming to the White Sox and being immediately thrust into a competition for the fifth spot in the starting rotation has the talented southpaw excited about his new home.
Right-hander Jose Contreras will see his first Cactus League action on Friday when the White Sox and Diamondbacks battle at Tucson Electric Park, beginning at 2:05 p.m. CT. Prospect Nick Masset is also slated to see his first mound action.
Mark Buehrle and Jermaine Dye, both key to building the successful foundation on which White Sox baseball now rests, are in the final year of their current contracts. Both love playing on the South Side, but know they could be elsewhere in 2008.
A source indicated that White Sox general manager Ken Williams has been in talks with Philadelphia GM -- and good friend -- Pat Gillick about a deal that would send middle-relief help, including lefthander Boone Logan, to the Phillies for former Sox outfielder Aaron Rowand.
