The Chicago White Sox Thread

Ken Williams wasn't happy Wednesday when a fellow White Sox staff member borrowed his golf cart. He became more upset after watching newly acquired left-hander Andrew Sisco surrender four hits and two walks in 11/3 innings to Colorado in a B game. Williams snapped at his coaches for not letting Sisco work out of a jam, then took Sisco for a spirited ride.

As much as Ozzie has been publicized for being on the hot-seat I think Williams is also. If Ozzie never said a word nobody would put him on the hot-seat; if Ozzie were silent I don't think he'd be a very good manager. I like Ozzie and their is alot of truth to what he says. I condone using derogatory comments like the one he used towards Mariotti. I'm obviously a fan of the White Sox but have criticized Williams on this site numerous times but i'm starting to like the moves he has made bringing in some young pitching talent. They re-signed Vazquez so in a year or two I think a rotation of Garland/Vazquez/Danks/Gonzalez/Broadway could be very good. Then other guys like Floyd and Haegar still competing for starting jobs. The pitching moves he made this offseason can't be judged for a few seasons. Although I was as big of a McCarthy fan as anybody.

In a move that paves the way for Tadahito Iguchi to drop down in the batting order, White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen said Sunday he plans to bat Darin Erstad second against right-handed starters. Erstad has batted in the second spot most of this spring, and Guillen has been pleased with the Sox's aggressive style, particularly on hit-and-run plays.

I read John Danks looks to have the inside track so far on being the 5th starter.

General manager Ken Williams has been low-key the last week, which means he may have one last deal up his sleeve. Williams has a history of making a trade late in spring training

This was supposed to be deadline week for Mark Buehrle and his fellow free-agents-to-be on the White Sox. The team made that clear when general manager Ken Williams said the Sox would listen throughout spring training to any long-term proposals from Buehrle, Jermaine Dye and Tadahito Iguchi, but come Opening Day, all bets were off.
There have been no talks, at least from Buehrle's end.

White Sox left-hander John Danks stayed in Tucson, Ariz., and threw a simulated game on Sunday that put to rest concerns about his control problems -- at least until he makes his major-league debut on Saturday against Minnesota. It did a ton for Danks' confidence, considering he admittedly was a bit rattled after the Wednesday outing. -- Chicago Sun-Times

White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen is concerned about the mental state of his No. 1 pitcher, and he planned to have a sit-down with Jose Contreras before his next scheduled start Sunday. Because Contreras lasted only 48 pitches, Guillen said there was some talk about possibly starting him Saturday and bumping rookie John Danks back a day, but that likely won't happen.

Buehrle left eary after being hit with a line drive. Good to see them pickup a W.

Can't hate a TNA wrestler.:cooldude:

I hate him cuz all he did was talk **** about the Giants when he was here and throw his teammates under the bus. Plus I just think he's an all around A-hole. Kinda like you, Phinny.

Wasn't it Tomko who threw him under the bus? Though I think the Giants gave up Nathan, Liriano, and maybe Bonser to get him? If Liriano were not hurt that's a package that a team should give up for a top notch player in the league. A.J. is a good player but that was a high price. Deals like that are why teams that don't spend as much money can be successful. Minnesota and Oakland are just better run franchises than most teams. Though they also have to be in order to compete year in and year out.
