The Couch vs Davey theory

My bet is we pick up neither, we go with Gus and AJ and readdress the position next off season.

If it was prior to training camp it would make sense, but not now. We have to go with what we got. Even if we did grab Couch, how succesful would he be getting third string snaps after missing the entire off-season recovering from his throwing arm injury????

Getting Couch for this year is useless, unless Gus and AJ completely tank it (which is possible)...Couch would be a low-cost alternative to a possible developmental guy that would take over next year. If, at the end of the season, neither Gus nor AJ have distinguished themselves...if Gus does well, then having Couch and AJ compete for #2 next year is good...if AJ does well, then having stiff competition and a solid #2 for next year is good...but...the key to all of this is whether he is healthy or not...He did get shafted in Cleveland by our old buddy Butch and/or the Browns FO...

We will get counch, he can learn the season by mid season, and after Feely and Ferrote fail miserably Couch will come in. Couch has talent.

I want a threat at quarterback because I want people to respect are throwing game so are runningbacks can have an easier time running the ball unlike ricky in his last year when people would just load up people in the box.

Assuming that he's recovered from his injury, he would come that cheaply, and that this is Saban's plan, why haven't they signed him yet?

Where in his record do you think Tim Couch has shown any talent of late. The man has shown NOTHing at the pro level, and his arm strength is in question. Do you really want to bring in another Qb with his question marks?

IF, and that's IF,we signed Couch, it would NOT be a waste. Even if he stayed as a 3rd stringer all season, which is what I would expect, he gets to spend an entire season learning the offense from the sidelines. This would provide him with the ability to come into next years TC already with knowledge of what the plays are and what's expected of the QB in this offense. It also will give him a ton of get-to-know the players time.

I don't know if we'll signed Rohan, Couch, Hutchinson (god I hope not), or any other QB, however, I feel it's a total waste of a roster spot to keep Sage as the 3rd QB for another season. He can make another team as the #2 and be a spot starter, IMO. Sage will NOT be back with the team next year, he's a waste of a spot that can go to a player who can learn from the sidelines. And remember, this is coming from a guy who all last year was rooting for him to get more playing time as a starter.

In addtion to Sage not being here next season, Either AJ or Gus will be gone next year as well. I'm guessing AJ since his salary balloons and Gus "could" become a mentor to a younger new guy in this offense. But if we go with spilt QBs this season, you could see Gus becoming an unhappy player. (much as I was saying I thought AJ was early in TC, who's obviously happy with the change of events) just some thoughts.

Anything that gets brought in is going to have question marks. If you go through the draft there are question marks, remember Couch was the number 1 rookie a few years back. The way I see it question marks are inevitable.

How many games have you seen Couch play at the pro level?? Not as many as I have. (From Cleveland)

What weapons did he have in Cleve & he STILL took them to the playoffs. There is no question, if he is healthy, he is WAY better than the two scrubs we have!

Next year we draft a QB.

No way there is anyone in next years draft that could come in and beat out Couch if Tm already had a year in the system. Couch would win the starting job by midseason and could solve our QB problem.

Even if we draft a QB next year we will still need a staring QB for a year or two until that selection is ready.
