You all are assuming Dion Jordan was Ireland's pick. Ross has already said he had asked Ireland to make a move for Dion Jordan based on input from the coaching staff.
He never said that.

Owner Stephen Ross agreed, saying Jordan was a favorite of the coaching staff in discussions before the draft.
"Everybody thought, 'Hey, we'll never get him,'" Ross said. "When the Raiders called back, I think everybody in the room was shocked. It's a great move. This is an impact player."
The idea was born when Ross asked his football guys which players they wanted most, regardless of position. Jordan’s name kept coming up. Ireland made a call while the Raiders were on the clock, was rebuffed, but the Raiders called back later and asked for the one and two.
Yep, I think the entire staff is tied to Ryan Tannehill at this point. Dion Jordan could put up 10+ sacks this season . . . if this team is sub .500 again and Ryan Tannehill shows limited improvement, that is all that is going to matter.
He never said that.
He did ask Ireland to try and get Dion Jordan after hearing that the coaches wanted him. He stated it in his post draft interview. Ireland said he would try to move up for him, and he did. You act like this was Ireland's risk, but in your usually **** spinning agenda to make Ireland look like a fool, you fail to realize this was the consensus pick by Ireland, Ross, and the coaching staff. Everyone wanted this pick. Success or failure, this is on Ross, Ireland, and the coaching staff.
And the "shocked" word you used was when Ross found out that Oakland ONLY wanted a 2nd rounder to move up to the 3rd pick overall. Moving up that far for so little is unheard of. They weren't shocked that they picked Jordan, they were shocked that it was so cheap.
really? so maybe we just have a different memory than reality, because I recall something about ross giving Ireland the green light to get Jordan if he could. Something along the lines of ... if you can get him, get him.Note: The above statement is completely unsupported by evidence. Even wikipedia would reject it.
sometimes I wish we had an age limit on this forum .that way anyone younger than 7 could not post this kind of B.S.just my 2 cents thoughJeff Ireland brought everybody in the building to the Scouting Combines this year because he knew how important this Draft was. As we all know, the Dolphins owned the 12th overall pick. The Dolphins also had 2 picks in the second round. He traded up to get Dion Jordan who had and still has a bad shoulder, giving up a high 2nd round pick in the process. At this point none of this years Draft picks will make an impact on this team with the exception of K-Celeb Sturgis. If the Miami Dolphins finish with a record any worse than 10-6, please make a case as to why he should get a new contract.
I already detailed exactly what happened.
They had dinner the night before the draft and Steve Ross asked the football guys who they'd want regardless of where they drafted. The next day Jeff Ireland took a "who knows?" stab and called Oakland and offered them a very low ball offer, on the chance that they might be desperate to move down for whatever reason. Oakland rejected it. The clock wound all the way down to about 2 minutes before the pick needed to be in, which is the bare minimum time needed to file one of these trades and get the pick in on time. The Raiders called and said we'll do it for the 42nd pick. The Dolphins didn't know they were going to call back, didn't think they were going to call back. When they did get called back, they accepted.
That's what happened. That's what they have STATED happened. If you'd like to go off vague and misremembered quotes, that's fine. You have every right to be wrong.
this is correct...i do believe though that on the initial call that ireland offered #56 and the raiders said no...then the oak raiders called back late in the clock and said they'll take pick #42...and it was done
Yea but nobody is debating how it went down. What we are talking about is if it was Ireland's call, or if Ross asked him to go for it based on the coaches consensus before the draft. We aren't talking about what happened during the draft, although CK clearly wants to change the point to that.
