The Dolphin Backup Qb situation.

Does it concern any of you we don’t have a backup QB currently on the roster capable of winning an NFL game if Tua gets hurt? These guys are awful. Seems risky to carry an injury prone QB like Tua without at least someone capable of going 500 while Tua is out.
While our backups leave much to be desired, the statement “capable of winning an NFL game” isn’t factual since both have.

Our backups are really consistent - consistently bad. 3-6 combined record as starters in the NFL

Isn't that why they are backups?
Let us see you double-talk your way out of that one! - LOL

Wait, they can actually win an NFL game?
Wasn't there someone whining that they couldn't?

Let the "Lemming" urination contest begin! - LOL

They used to be. And we were well known to have the best.

Earl Morrall. When Griese went down, Earl got us to the Steelers playoff game with no losses.

Thats the year we were undefeated.

Don Strock. Backed up Griese, Woodley, and some guy (like Strock) from Pennsylvania, think his first name was Dan…

Strock was an animal. Pure pocket passer.

He always did better off the bench than starting. He was at his best when things were at their worst.

Matt Moore liked to air it out as well.

But the guys we have now…not so much.

Maybe, maybe not.

I thought Skyler looked pretty good. Two different times he delivered long passes that were inches too long. Both catches could have been caught, and both throws would have been caught by Waddle or Hill. Hell, our starters are faster.

Then there was the play where he ran around in the backfield, got open and delivered the ball to Berrios.

He wasn't helped much by his recievers.

White was more accurate, but almost all of his passes were short and underneath... and hell... he had no RB and our bottom receivers and linemen.

Yes, I think some bros are crying. Those QBs weren't great, but they didn't suck either.

Maybe, maybe not.
I got to say, I’m concerned.

Tua is a sniper. Hyper accurate, can win it all. But all hands agree that his line is, at best, highly questionable.

Questionable lines lead to F’d up QBs.

Tolerable, if you have a solid backup…

…which we do not.

One of the reasons Marino ruled supreme was his line. Dwight Stevenson, Richmond Webb, etc..

Can you imagine what Tua could do with Marino’s line?

If he gets banged up, we’re hosed….

…and not the good kind (Circumstances)

Never seen so many drops from skylar thrown balls during his time here.

Haven’t watched the Dolphins game, will see it tomorrow morning. But I’m on my fourth game of the day and the only QB that’s looked good is Williams. Pittsburgh vs the Bills supposedly have 3 QB’s better than our two backups and that game was a total **** show.

Heineke would be a great backup.
I do think Heineke would be a good back-up QB.
I'm not satisfied he's worth the cost.

I do believe Skylar is adequate and will continue to improve with more time throwing to our receivers. At his current level of pay, it is difficult to justify replacing him with Heineke, IMO.

Thought I'd start a convo on this, I know we've been talking about it a lot.

personally there are some strange factors going on like White/skylar skillset relative to our system doesn't seem like a fit.

I do think there is some value in continuity and not disrupting the room right now and letting the best man keep the job, but i'm not sure you can continue to avoid it either with just poor play by both.

So i've been looking at a lot of preseason action, my preference was to take the florida state kid in this yearss draft however, I think there might be a situation in LA to keep an eye on.

of course you have stafford and Jimmy G, Jimmy is suspended for the first 2 games but they also have stetson bennet.

just throwin a name out there

now he's been learning our system for two years now even though he had to take a hiatus last year, and he just doesn't strike me as someone who's gonna want to sit on a practice squad.

my question is let's say the rams try and stash him on the practice squad, can't a team swoop him up if they do?
If they put him in their 53 they do. 😀 I don’t like our backup qb situation either, neither are good enough.

Finheaven like Tannehill more than when he was a Dolphin it seems.
I've always been a massive Tannehill fan. I never thought he was the best in the league or anything, but the dude was tough as ****, never complained, did his best with a ****-show of a roster, and blossomed once he left here and actually had some weapons in Tennessee...then Tennessee let his top 2 weapons go and he struggled. I'm fully aware of his limitations, he's not elite, but he has some elite traits and I've seen him make throws few if any other QBs could make (50+ yard TD to Stills vs San Diego for example). I'd be very interested to see what he could do with this arsenal.

As a back-up, I'd be very happy to have him back if he'd do it...and I wouldn't blame him one bit if he declined.
