The Dolphin Backup Qb situation.

The Phins need to get an better option at Backup QB, The offense doesn't look the same, I know that they can see it, even Jeff Driscoll looked better than them, they can't waste all of the talent on this team with QBs that can't read defenses, Skyler misses wide open receivers, and White doesn't throw with anticipation, Bring in Tannehill, at least you knows that he will move the team into scoring position, and he wasn't that bad IMO when he was in Miami.

I've always been a massive Tannehill fan. I never thought he was the best in the league or anything, but the dude was tough as ****, never complained, did his best with a ****-show of a roster, and blossomed once he left here and actually had some weapons in Tennessee...then Tennessee let his top 2 weapons go and he struggled. I'm fully aware of his limitations, he's not elite, but he has some elite traits and I've seen him make throws few if any other QBs could make (50+ yard TD to Stills vs San Diego for example). I'd be very interested to see what he could do with this arsenal.

As a back-up, I'd be very happy to have him back if he'd do it...and I wouldn't blame him one bit if he declined.
I was a huge supporter of Tannehill when he was here. All the same reasons you mentioned. I just don't think he would fit into this quick read offense. I don't think it plays to his strengths.

In last night's game Skylar got very little help from his WRs. White threw the ball well but had less to work with then Skylar did. I think it's hard to grade the backups in these games as they are not playing with the starters. Maybe the coaches see more of what they can do in practice, if they are playing with the "ones" ?

Agreed on all. The offense would certainly have to be adjusted, but he's good enough to make plays as a fill-in, and he had great chemistry with AJ Brown, Davis and Jonnu at Tennessee. His play certainly improves with the weaponry.

It's interesting. Preseason games for most teams are when your backup QBs get to look like superstars playing against backup and practice squad defenses. Usually leads to calls from some fans to replace their starter. Been the opposite for us this year.

IMO, they are both terrible by NFL standards and any of the following available QBs would be upgrades if Miami had to start their backup QB for a game or more, and it's not saying much about some of these QBs on this list.
  • Ryan Tannehill
  • Trevor Siemian
  • Blaine Gabbert
  • A.J. McCarron
  • Brian Hoyer
  • Kellen Mond

Again... You have to understand how ****ing rare good NFL QB play is. Lets put it like this...

Top 5 QBs have a good winning%
Top 10 QBs have winning records.
10 to 15 play .500 ball
Bottom half have losing records.

News flash! You don't get to pick your backup in any of these groups... You get the left overs... Those dudes haven't proven to be able to win games in the NFL, and more often than not, have been tested in many different situations.

You'll get the best backup in the NFL, and find out he actually wasn't after the fact... You'll get a **** one and he'll almost win a road playoff game for you.

The only legit way to get a bonafide upside guy as a backup is to draft him in the first 2 rounds of the NFL draft, and that rarely makes alot of sense as a team that's already got their #1 figured out and paid.

Is what it is...

Maybe Tannehill is better, but that's still a question at his age. The other guys on this are no better than what's already on the roster.

Nice analysis of the performance of our two backup QB's.

If Josh Dobbs gets released.. get him imo.
He's got the 'it' factor and worked well in sf this preseason. Not the same as our system, but very similar. He has also proven to be adept at picking up new offenses on the fly.

He is going make 49ers roster

I don't know, maybe I just can't see it. IMO, the Dolphins are in big trouble if White or Thompson are asked to do anything more than hand the ball off a few times late in the 4th quarter of a blowout win, but I guess you could say that about every other team in the NFL.

I’ve watched enough in isolation, I see disturbing things from white and think he should be cut..jmo
